Retailer Dick's Sporting Goods misses estimates, shares fall (stopped carrying AR's)
Reuters ^

Aug 20 (Reuters) - Dick's Sporting Goods Inc reported lower-than-expected quarterly results as fewer customers visited its stores due to cooler and wetter weather and weakness in consumer spending.

Shares of the company, which sells footwear, apparel and camping gear, fell 5 percent to $48.25 in premarket trading.

Consumers have tightened spending amid higher payroll taxes and gasoline prices and a slowing job market. A host of retailers from Macy's Inc to Wal-Mart Stores Inc have reported tepid sales for the latest quarter.

Good.

I won’t be back. They ruined a perfectly good chain that I liked, by acquisition (Galyan’s), and then this. Two strikes is enough for me.

Bass Pro is sort of OK, but I really wish we had a Cabella’s.

You have 2 GA stores to be opening in 2014.

http://www.cabelas.com/stores/stores_home.jsp

Acworth in Fall of 2014 and Augusta in spring of 2014.

Forgot to add.....get the Cabela’s credit card when you can.

Nothing like earning rewards for guns and ammo. Last year, I got about $450 in free gear.

I walked into our Dick’s one time, right after they opened. Did a quick cruise of the store and walked out. They really don’t carry a lot of anything if it is not for tennis, baseball, etc.

Dick's strategy may be to split: One for the soccer mom crowd, one for the 2a crowd. If FIELD AND STREAM is successful, they may just make it official.

BTW, Cranberry Township is home base for Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, a guy so pro 2a that he even gives the RINO wing of the GOP hissy fits. He is also a favorite at TEA party rallies.

I will not be spending a single dime at any company under the Dick’s umbrella. No way of putting lipstick on an Anti-2A company.

I cut up my Dick’s Rewards card which I had on my keychain the day they made their decision to stop carrying AR’s

Me too. The only way I will ever spend another dollar with them is if there is a "going out of business" sale. Same with Cheaperthandirt.com

Of all my trips into Dick’s, I never once saw an NRA shirt for sale. They sell jerseys by the dozen, but no NRA shirts.

Cabela’s sells them, and I bought about 5 this year alone.

You can judge a man by the company he keeps; a corollary of this is that you can judge a store by what it does (and does not) sell.

The Dick’s parking lot in Pocatello is a good place to
train a new driver. Little chance of encountering another
vehicle.

How about listing a single AR?

Why would they not list them?

Maybe the prices fluctuate. Maybe they only want to sell them in-store. Who knows? I do know that--like many online retailers--their online inventory does not fully reflect their in-store inventory.

Bass Pro is a wonderful place to shop. I buy ammo there.

Dicks bought out Galyans and then got rid of guns and other huting and fishing gear. They do have plenty of sports shoes and those stupid shirts with sports teams logos on them.

I do get the impression that they are a fashion store.

Neither is particularly convenient, but given the location of Bass Pro, I can see why they went there.

I’ll make it a point to combine trips for sure!
