Boyd Marcus, a longtime Republican adviser and strategist in Virginia who has worked for former Gov. James S. Gilmore III and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, threw his support behind Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe on Tuesday.
Mr. Marcus, who will also serve as a consultant to Mr. McAuliffe’s campaign, said in a statement he’s supporting Mr. McAuliffe because he believes the Democrat will work with both parties to advance economic growth.
“Virginia needs an experienced businessman who will put the practical needs of our people ahead of political ideology,” Mr. Marcus said. “I’ve never before supported any Democrat, but this election Terry is the clear choice for mainstream conservatives.”
Mr. Marcus most recently worked on the campaign of Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling, who ultimately opted against an independent run for governor after Attorney General Kenneth T. Cuccinelli II took the Republican nomination. Mr. Bolling has not officially given his endorsement in the race but has been much more magnanimous toward Mr. McAuliffe than Mr. Cuccinelli in his public statements.
The endorsement also means the end of the Republican public affairs firm of Marcus & Allen LLC: Mr. Marcus’s partner, Ray Allen, says he’s buying Mr. Marcus’ shares of the 20-year-old business, The Associated Press reported.

You're right. I live 10 minutes east of Lynchburg; our area had a massive voter turnout in 2012. Our polling place was crammed to the maximum, with a waiting time of about two hours to vote, and everyone in the crowd was excited about getting rid of Obama. But the Washington transplants in northern Virginia and the blacks in Hampton Roads carried the day.
It won't get any better, either. Bob McDonnell, our wonderful "conservative" governor, is going to give the vote back to felons. The NAACP is thrilled to bits.

Well, that's certainly the way the GOPe tells the story. I seem to remember it differently, especially the part about how Cuccinelli was head-and-shoulders above Bolling (who has always been a moderate in actions, if not words) in his conservative bona fides. Also how the grass-roots of the party was tired of "next turn" candidates (like Dole and McCain were at the national level), and wanted a principled conservative for the offices, which led to several people running who were little known... because the known candidates were "next turn" moderates and wouldn't talk or walk conservatism. I also seem to remember a lot of discussion about how the Dems would register as Repubs in order to vote in our primary... and how that led to weak candidates (like... say... Bolling) in previous elections.
But, then again, I guess if you care more about winning than conservatism, Bolling's narrative might be plausible. The only problem is, if you run a moderate so they'll win... even if they do win, they never vote as a conservative...
But Cuccinelli did tell Bolling he was supporting him for Governor early into the current term, and Cuccinelli has never denied that. Bolling chose not to run against McDonnell for the nomination last time and McDonnell then endorsed Bolling for governor the next time, which Cuccinelli was on board with. Bolling was a very conservative state senator and Lt. Governor and has only been sounding like McCain et al since the double cross. No doubt in my mind Bolling would be elected governor this November if he were the nominee. Instead we will get a crook, liar, nimcompoop Clinton liberal.
Now I do believe in conservatism, and I think Bolling would be a far better governor than a crook, liar, nimcompoop Clinton liberal. But you cannot forget the ultimate effect this will have on our Constitution, among other things, as I mentioned in my original post.
Romney DID have significant business experience, and would have been a better President than the Clown.McAuliffe is a leech.
But Romney was a lib and I doubt he would have done much different from Obama.

Romney was no Conservative. Did you here him talk of across the board tax cuts? Cutting govt? Defunding the dept of education?
And Romney defended Romnycare which funds abortion.
Be a realist about Romney. I am and I reluctantly voted for him.
I’m not going to re-live the nightmare that was the 2012 re-instatement of the Clown into power.
Romney would not have allowed Obamacare to live. He rightfully asserted the 10th Amendment when putting a plan in place for HIS state. He vetoed many of the bad provisions of the bill, and was overridden by the Democrat legislature.
He wasn’t the perfect candidate, but the notion that he was just as bad as Obama is a giant, stinking pile of sewage.
I remember, by the way, Reagan talking about getting rid of the Department of Education. And it is still around.
I never believed Romney would have got rid of Obamacare. He recently was critical of efforts to defund Obamacare.

Romney would have moved the Party to the Left as president and that is as bad as Boehner/Mcconell doing so.

Yup was “dating” Carville during the 92 election unbeknown to her employer. They both came out to the media after the election with their opposites attract love story amidst fawning media coverage proudly trumpeting their engagement & marriage. Mrs. Carville was also a trusted aide to Vice President Cheny during the DNC orchestrated Valerie’s Lame manufactured scandal. She always manages to worm her way into top republican circles.Why anyone with a brain would trust her?

The only way to fix it is to get special interest money out of
politics. Since that aint happening as both parties are sucking from the same teat
I’m safe in predicting it’ll only get worse until there’s only one big party. Hell it’s hard to tell them apart now.
