United Parcel Service Inc. plans to remove thousands of spouses from its medical plan because they are eligible for coverage elsewhere. The Atlanta-based logistics company points to the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, as a big reason for the decision, reports Kaiser Health News.
The decision comes as many analysts are downplaying the Affordable Care Acts effect on companies such as UPS, noting that the move reflects a long-term trend of shrinking corporate medical benefits, Kaiser Health News reports. But UPS repeatedly cites Obamacare to explain the decision, adding fuel to the debate over whether it erodes traditional employer coverage, Kaiser says.

HOPE and CHANGE!!
Once again, 0 won’t be blamed for this (by UPS employees)...UPS (big, evil fat-cats) will!! The Limbaugh Theorem.
The press release stated it was good for business with a little bit of blame to BO Care
But wait, I heard on the Obama buttlicking media in Miami, strangely enough, the radio station that carries Rush Limbaugh, WIOD, that the UPS move WAS NOT REALLY about Obamacare, but was a “trend that many companies had been doing for years”!
LOL!!!
Keep covering for the Clown, liberal media...he’ll come for you someday, and you’ll have no defenders.
I suspect more companies will drop non-working spouses because non-working spouses will be be eligible for care through an insurance exchange.
My stay-at-home Mom wife will love this... /s
In the long run, I think many of the benefits companies have traditionally offered to attract talent will be eliminated as the costs of those benefits increase.
Healthcare was a big, emotional target, so the DIMS went for it first.
Another story that has no chance of being the top of the hour lead on MSNBC . . .
Health insurance is obviously a huge business expense, this is going to happen more and more with or without Obama-care.
Those evil capitalist... hehe
If you are provided an “affordable” option for yourself, by your employer, your family won’t be eligible for subsidies in Obamacare. They really screwed up when they wrote that portion of the law.
To those UPS employees effected by this and vote LIB/DIM... Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahaha!
In this case, Obamacare is only 50% successful. Its goal is to put EVERYONE on government controlled healthcare, not just spouses.
I suspect more companies will drop non-working spouses because non-working spouses will be be eligible for care through an insurance exchange.
I had an inkling all along why businesses supported Obamacare.
FUPS,
They were involved in blackmailing the BSA into accepting queers by withholding donations and enjoining boycotts of BSA with other like minded liberal companies.
If I have shipping options, I NEVER choose UPS and never will. I’d rather go USPS, that’s what I think of those brownshirts.
This has always been an inequity for business. Two parents working for different companies? Who pays the medical premiums? Who covers the kids? I’ll bet that big business had covered the costs because some parents had their own startups or worked for small family businesses that didn’t cover them. I see this as big business plugging the growing, bleeding healthcare expense. OK, so now UPS doesn’t cover the spouse. Who covers the kids?
This has hit our house too — my insurance no longer covers my husband, his no longer covers me. NO explanation given.
I’m positive it’s due to obamacare — we’re only seeing the so-called tip of the iceberg here, this monstrosity hasn’t fully hit (our taxes and pocketbook) yet.
Thanks for the info — I’ll remember that into the future and this message should be spread far and wide. What about FedEx?
