Companies operating in the Marcellus and Utica shale regions say it has been a challenge to fill openings in engineering, geology, environmental health and other professional fields.

The Marcellus Shale Coalition, a gas drilling industry trade group, on Wednesday released a workforce survey of more than 100 of its members. The companies said that finding qualified talent and getting prospective employees to relocate are the biggest challenges they face when it comes to hiring.

Considering the location, would you relocate? Can’t we drill long distance? There are certain geographical locations in this country I will NOT move to regardless of the $$$. After I retired I was approached for a high level job at a solar firm in kali for nearly 2 times what I used to make + stock options. Two things killed the deal. 1. Kalifornia. 2. Solar firm. I do have my limitations. LOL!

They are not hiring people like you. That is a good thing.

I am tied to the Houston area for my family.

Can’t we drill long distance?

A couple miles horizontal is not much of a stretch these days. ~8 miles horizontal has be done but at a very large cost.

Employed people go where the jobs are. Welfare addicts go where the best benefits are. That pretty much sums up life in America.

Knowing the industry and the fact that the pay is best on the gulf coast right now, why would anyone go to PA. They are going to have to pay significantly more than what can be made on the gulf coast to get people to go there.

This sentence is precisely why Obama and EPA want to shut down use of this new technology - gotta have the serfs dependent on the king for support:

The companies that took part in the survey, primarily drilling, pipeline and related companies, said they plan to add 4,000 jobs this year.

Company men in PA are getting up to 300K. Considering the cost of living in small town PA, that is a LOT of money.

Y’all can sit right wherever you are. I’m happy to take the gas field money here.

It always cracks me up when they post these articles but never provide any links to the employers. Probably why they are having a hard time filling the positions...
