ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (AP) — A central Kentucky theater owner who trained pilots during the Vietnam War is refusing to show the nation's top movie, "The Butler" because one of the stars is Jane Fonda who was an outspoken opponent of the conflict.

“(I have no problem with that).”

Neither do I. It’s simple for me, because I don’t watch anything made after app the the end of the studio system, and my preferred films are silents through the early thirties. So I don’t even have to bother weighing newer films. I did watch “Rebel Without A Cause” and “ Splendor In The Grass”, and those were two of the silliest, most cringe-inducing (especially Splendor In The Grass) movies I’ve ever seen.

Being an opponent of the conflict is not something to be shunned. How you went about your opposition is what is important. Riding an anti-aircraft gun that was used to kill Americans, among other heinous acts, is what is at the heart of the issue.

"Yeah, but if theaters start boycotting films because they star American enemies, pretty soon they won’t be showing ANYTHING at all."

Reason #1 why we need to develop a conservative/patriotic pop culture in this country.

The only Jane Fonda movie I really enjoyed was They Shoot Horses, Don't They? because she she gets shot at the end.

Considering that the film contains nothing but leftists, you can bet it will be nominated for multiple oscars..just like that trash on HBO that mocked Sarah Palin, it was a garbage film, yet it won award after award, not because it was any good because it wasn’t, but because it mocked conservatives..so you can bet The Butler will probably won Best Picture

...the nation's top movie...

Not any more...something named 'The Mortal Instruments' knocked it from #1 last night.

At one time, we had one. I can rattle off a whole list of show-biz people who loved their country: Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne, Audrey Hepburn, Hugh O’Brien, Lucille Ball, Dezi Arnaz and even a modern example or two like Bruce Willis, Clint Eastwood and Ben Stein.

It's not that she was a "critic of the conflict", it's that she was a treasonous communist who gave comfort to the Vietcong ...

To me, while agreeing 100% with you, it also may be that she did that INFAMOUS photo op climbing on the Soviet-made Anti-Aircraft Gun that had almost certainly shot at the fliers that the theater owner had trained!

The fact that the film had Jane Fonda portraying Nancy Reagan is sufficient, by itself, to demonstrate the biases presented in this movie. Stink, stank and SKUNK!

Good for him! This movie is a travesty because of the traitorous Fonda. Casting her as Nancy Reagan is a slap in the face to the Reagans. And who cast Robin Williams (a fine actor) as Ike?

Too bad the producers took a great story and trashed it with casting. The poster has even been changed from the hero in a red, white, and blue silouhette, to him doing the Black Power salute. Shame. Shame. shame.

I wish more owners would refuse to show it.

I’d like to see more refusals based on the current behavior of the film’s director rather than the past behavior of one of its performers.

"....and the **** playing her".

In polite circles **** is code for " See You Next Tuesday".

Viet Nam Vets pet name for Jane Fonda.

She was, however, hot in the only movie I’ve seen here in, Barbarella. An absolutely stupid movie, but, who cares!

Oh dear. You need to do some more research on the Fonda/SS# tale.

The Mortal Instruments'

Interesting, since it got panned in the paper today. What indicates if the picture bombed or not is the second night's box office compared to the first night's in the opening weekend. If the second night's take is smaller, it's considered a flop because word-of-mouth was not good.
