Stray dogs are a common sight in Detroit. What about a big cat?

According to reports, many residents on the city’s northeast side have seen what appears to be an exotic cat, perhaps as tall as four feet, roaming the streets.

Officials with the Michigan Humane Society said they have received several calls about the animal and workers are out in the city, trying to find the feline.

Antwaun Asberry, a 6-foot-5 Detroiter, told the Detroit Free Press the cat’s tail is longer than his arm.

“I was like, what the (expletive) … I don’t know what it is. I just want it gone,” Asberry said. ”He walked like he ain’t scared of nothing… This thing is out here, bro.”

The stories are more surreal than the city.

I’ve been there a few times in recent months. Its a mess but not nearly what FReepers want to believe. Some areas are really bad and others not bad at all. One of the worst areas is going to disappear to make room for the new bridge.

One crazy thing is that the man who owns the Ambassador bridge (Matty Maroun) is exporting decay to Windsor. He’s being sued right now for some $10 million over a couple hundred empty homes he owns in Windsor that are falling down due to a lack of upkeep.

If I had any interest in moving to the area it could be an astute opportunity to pick up a home for a cheap price. Back in the 1970s you could buy old brownstones in NYC for 10 or 15 thousand, and now they’re worth millions. Things always change. As bad as Detroit may now be it inevitable will turn around, and those willing and able to buy now just have to wait and likely will be well rewarded down the road. A lot of folks back in the depression got huge returns by buying farmland and other property on the cheap.

Perhaps people are seeing Detroit as an opportunity to dump all those exotic “cute” little pets they’ve raised and have outgrown that extra bedroom they’ve been housing them in — you know lions, tigers, bears and pythons.

The cat sounds like a leopard.

Cheetah? I've heard of cheetahs as exotic pets more often than leopards.

That’s a possibility, too. Cheetahs, one reads, are trainable, while leopards aren’t.

It’s a Liger...

Pretty much my favorite animal. It’s like a lion and tiger mixed. Bred for its skills in magic.

Their a little late to the game, my fireman gnome told me they (him and another fireman) spotted something big with a ring around it’s tail a year or more or so ago, and it wasn’t a dog and that ring denotes Male Lion

Mostly what has transpired it that for awhile people were opting for the Toledo Zoo rather than the Detroit Zoo and Detroit Zoo almost closed, but the latter has come back from the brink and is quite an attraction.
