A 96-year-old Illinois man wrote a song about his wife of 75 years and when he sent the heart-wrenching ode into a singer-songwriter contest, they decided to produce it for him.

When Fred Stobaugh talks about his wife Lorraine now, it’s hard for him to hold back tears after the life they led together he says was ‘like a dream.’

After she died, he was sitting alone in the Peoria home they once shared and for the first time in his life he decided to write a song.

An ever lasting love.

God blessed him. 1. He had found true love. 2. He knew he had true love.

What a tribute to Lorraine and what a tribute to love.

What an absolutely classless remark as I sit here with tears running down my chees. I lost my dear wife of 48 years just a few months ago.

You owe an apology to all FReeper widowers who loved their mates.

This would be so much more fitting on an obama, holder, al sharpton, or jesse hackson thread. They stole a dream and turned it into a nightmare of gigantic proportions.

The world is saturated with misery and strife, so it is uplifting to find such a nice sentimental article and thread. You have totally ruined it. There’s a time and place for black humor, but this isn’t it. Please THINK before posting next time.

The poor man. My heart goes out to him. I'm visiting my 92 year old uncle next week who lost his wife of 60 years a couple years ago, so I can really understand what he's experiencing. They were a beautiful couple:

96 tears old and he still loves his wife. There is a much deeper message in there. Love is worth waiting for and there is a mahor difference between real love and what passes for love these days. This is beautiful and so sad all at the same time. Any one of us should be so lucky.
Salamander said something about her husband on a thread the other day that struck me the same way this did. It is what it is.
