Maybe old Cokie should spend a few minutes in a Southern state in modern times instead of going off of impression based in the past before she opines on this subject.

Comparing the two parties today with those of 75-100 years ago is a bit pointless, but yes, it were the Democrats that tended to be segregationist.

I have yet to hear a single one of these scumbags explain why Democrats need ID to get their food stamps, welfare EBT cards, and Section 8 housing subsidies, and all the rest of their handouts, but shouldn’t need ID to vote.

During his tenure in Congress, Hale Boggs was an influential player in the government. After Brown v. Board of Education he signed the Southern Manifesto condemning desegregation in the 1950s and opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Yet unlike most southern congressmen of his era, he supported the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the Open Housing Act of 1968.
So he despised the Negro himself and yet saw the writing on the polling booth wall. Well, isn't it just fine for Missy Cokie to expiate her shame by smearing others as criminals...one can only imagine the slurs and degradation dealt out daily in the hallways of home and office at the historic, palatial Chez Boggs...
And no I don't wish her a well day on earth, regardless of her sainted old mother's passing...Cokie Roberts would rather see the likes of me and mine up against a wall, or in shackles out in the shed like the blacks her great-granddaddy used to OWN.

I would really like to ask Miss Cokie what is "backward" about requiring photo ID to vote.
Shouldn't one have to prove that a.) they are who they say they are, b.) a citizen, c.) a resident of the precinct and d.) of voting age in order to cast a ballot?
If not, why not? Shouldn't voting be as easy as a.) cashing a check, b.) driving a car or c.) buying a gun?

The Voting Rights Act should never have been extended by Bush and the Republican congress. It should have died a well deserved death. Now all it does is give the Alinskyites avenues to ensure Dhimm districts.

Could be. I opted for direct deposit. Our postal service is a bit “iffy.”They deduct for Medicare, so that saves me the trouble of mailing in a check.
