MILLER: Is this Martin Luther King’s legacy? National Mall covered in garbage
The washington Times ^ | August 25, 2013 | Emily Miller

The day after thousands rallied to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s March on Washington, the National Mall looks like a trash dump.

The grass from the Lincoln Memorial to the World War II Memorial is covered Sunday with empty soda cans, water bottles, boxed lunches, newspapers, a broken chair and rally signs. The Reflecting Pool also was filled with trash.

Although the trash cans were full along the expanse, the attendees did not attempt to leave their garbage near the bins. Instead, they left everything on the grass where they stood.

And better than a half million people attended the restoring honor rally.

You can take the dweller out of the ghetto, but you can’t take the ghetto out of the dweller.

Its a shame that King will only be remembered as a street name in a neighbor hood you don’t want to go...

Any message has been lost.

Timber Rattler: Thanks for spotting the piece by Emily Miller. And thanks to Emily Miller for covering it. Of course she’ll be called racis’ for bringing it up no doubt. Typical pigs expecting someone else to do the dirty work. Heaven forbid they should pick up. Apathy is running rampant in the country.

Pretty bad but doesn’t appear to be anywhere near as bad as after the first obama inaguration, I didn’t see photos of the second one. The Tea Party March on Washington left no litter, just full trash cans. I’ve never been to tea party event that left litter.

Only tens of thousands? Probably a lot of these folks weren’t even alive when King was.

I’d like to see their yards at home and the inside of their homes. Or the homes we are providing for them.

I wonder if anyone said, “We been picking up garbage for 400 years. Now the white man can pick up ours.”

Just think, money is being funneled into their neighborhoods under the guise of green initiatives at the same time they’re regulating what we can do with our own properties.

When Glen Beck had his Tea Party Rally a few years ago there was some noting about what little litter and garbage was left behind. How ironic that a bunch of people who are adorable leftists and probably agree with the environmental blah blah would then leave a bunch of garbage at their rally.

Oh, someone will clean it up.

And that someone is a person of color union employee.

Why would you want to deprive them?

Hate to tell ya', bud, but I attended an outdoor Mass in hot weather at a summer camp recently, and the kids there (white, and Catholic) dropped their water bottles on the ground like all-stars. (Though not to this degree).

I'm saying that the rot has spread farther than you think.

Looking at the pictures doesn’t match what this article says. Far from it, in fact. I have seen much worse.

Fifty years ago the participants knew that their people would be the ones collecting the trash, so they cared.

Now that such duties have been passed along to the illegals....

I attended the first Tea Party in NYC in 2009. There were no arrests, no garbage left behind and no disruptions. Nothing but patriotic Americans exercising their right to free speech.

Amen! I spent ten years, (1992–2002,) in California, and never did get used to all the trash lining roads.
