AMMAN | Tue Aug 27, 2013 8:34am EDT

AMMAN (Reuters) - Western powers told the Syrian opposition to expect a strike against President Bashar al-Assad's forces within days, according to sources who attended a meeting between envoys and the Syrian National Coalition in Istanbul.

"The opposition was told in clear terms that action to deter further use of chemical weapons by the Assad regime could come as early as in the next few days, and that they should still prepare for peace talks at Geneva," one of the sources who was at the meeting on Monday told Reuters.

The meeting at a hotel in downtown Istanbul was between senior figures of the Syrian National Coalition, including its president Ahmad Jarba, and envoys from 11 core "Friends of Syria" alliance members, that included U.S. envoy Robert Ford, the top U.S. official handling the Syria file, the sources said.

Note to Assad: Like Saddam before you we telegraph our mission to give you the opportunity to move the WMD you got from Saddam, before we show up to blow it to smithereens to eliminate the Iraqi markings on the canisters. Be forewarned!

"Carla del Ponte, a member of the U.N. Independent
International Commission of Inquiry on Syria,
told Swiss TV there were “strong, concrete suspicions
but not yet incontrovertible proof,” that rebels
seeking to oust Syrian strongman Bashar al-Assad
had used the nerve agent.

Nobama did squat when our foreign service personnel were being attacked and killed in Benghazi, now wants to attack Syria?

So much for the element of surprise.

Well, I'm surprised. Didn't know we had an election coming up so soon.

Gee, why should that affect the outcome, the mission is to help the rebels not deter Assad.

At least 85% of the country opposes American involvement in the Syrian civil war. Why aren’t Republicans demanding that Obama obtain Congressional approval before he starts his big adventure?

They were Americans but, unfortunately, also infidels.
Sunni and other Islamist bulls are being gored in Syria.
So al-Obama must act .... duh.

Oh, gee! Can we not blab every known fact and assumption? Why not just post the targeting plans on-line with little explosive graphic icons to show which places we plan on hitting? WTF is wrong with us?

Imagine Ike dropping leaflets all over Normandy June 5th 1944 for the Germans to see troop movements, plans and order of battle?
This is not a new phenomenon, it has been going on for years and it eliminates the element of surprise completely. Man it must be fun to be an enemy of the West, it's not even a challenge for Putin and Assad. Don't worry, they're already planing their counter-punch...
