Sorry, but my imagined view of a Detroit school teacher is one of a 300 lb gorilla.

Is it a UNION web site?

Actually that doesn’t say much for the Union now does it?
But I guess some of the ‘Reps’ could double as pimps???

Does a Union ‘House of ill Repute’ work on the seniority method?

I would imagine they are reporting ALL their income to ‘Unka Shugah”

And, in a related story, students in Detroit moonlight as ‘sugar babies’ to enhance their grades...

“You can’t expect a teacher to accept less pay for more work than their peers, and then reach into their pockets to fund your child’s classroom,” Wade said in a statement. “But that’s what’s happening. If those are the expectations and pressures we are putting on our teachers in America, than they can’t possibly be judged for whatever extracurricular activities they choose to pursue to stay afloat.”

More work than what peers? Are some teachers in Detroit making significantly more than others?

I have worked in the Oil Industry for 35 years and have never been offered a benefits package like some teachers have.

As for not being judged for "extracurricular activities", what's next, hit men? ...drug dealers?

Sure, you can be judged to be morally fit or not based on what you do in the community on your own time. Teachers are supposed to be role models.

If you don't like your day job, quit.

DETROIT teachers as 'Sugar Babies'? Phew. No thanks, mate. Rather stick to the human species.

And that is OBVIOUSLY NOT a detroit teacher.

So is the NEA complaining that they don't get their fair share of the after school work?

Yo, b!%¢#. Time to hand over your dues. Don't make me union slap you.

the average teacher spent at least $485 on school supplies for their classroom last year.

I never have understood that. That comes out to about $25 per student which is a pittance to the upward (or over) $10k per kid already spent. Squeeze it out of the district or just do without for a year or two and see how the school likes it.

i don’ t think of public school teachers as educated women. or men. i know exactly how tough it was for them in college and it was one of the easiest schools to get a degree from. these people thought journalism was hard. they thought my college, engineering, was incredibly hard, and to do very well, it was.

second, who’s left in detroit that has money for paid escorts? and why would they pick public school teachers? constanty talking about how hard they have it, how under-appreciated they are, how unfair their wages are, how they are professionals even though they are union workers...

It’s telling that they would prefer to try becoming “sugar babies” than getting married to some guy, or even moving in with a boyfriend.

This tells me that she has NO ability to attract a gainfully-employed man and make him willing to live with her, yet she has such an enormously over-sized ego that she thinks some wealthy man is going to pay $3K/month for her charming company.

The problem with a lot of Detroit residents is that their egotistical expectations of what they deserve does not match their actual talents.

I've seen Detroit teachers and can't believe they're making much as escorts.
