Rep. Steve King compared the nation's unemployed to lazy children who refuse to do their chores and called on them to "step up" and take unskilled jobs if necessary to help support themselves and improve the nation's economy.
According to Red Alert Politics, the Iowa Republican drew the analogy during an event Monday in Charleston, S.C., where he claimed that millions of Americans "aren’t contributing" to the workforce.

He said if children told their moms they were "not doing the chores" they wouldn't eat.
"Pretty soon those kids [would understand] 'you get to eat after you do the work! Not just in hopes that one day you might actually do the work," he said, according to Red Alert.
While he suggested the nation's still high unemployment rate of 7.4 percent is caused in part by Americans unwilling to work, he also said that welfare programs and immigrant workers are to blame as well.

I am on unemployment right now and must log each job I apply for (several per week) in addition to attending job fairs etc. I have no problem with this but was thinking the other day what are the requirements for those on welfare? Nada. And that needs to change.

My heart is too big to approve of what liberals advertise as generosity. It’s cruelty, and I am disgusted with those who ignore its human costs.
I worked at two state’s unemployment offices for almost 15 years as a veteran’s rep., welfare-to-work trainer and supervisor. Every state runs their operation a little differently, but some don’t even require much work search reporting from claimants any more.
I don't think they take their marching orders from creepy az crackers,but good luck with that.
There are lots of people who are unemployed through no fault of their own, and now the media/Dems is going to kick into high gear, take King's remarks out of context, and the Republicans will again be portrayed as mean-old right-wing extremists.
There's a reason why Limbaugh is so successful and hated by the Left. You never accept the Left's premises or stereotypes, and beat them with simple logic and facts.

We need mapping and addresses of everyone on public assistance to shame them to their neighbors.
I know. Most don’t care. But it would be instructive, demographically and geographically.
I’m afraid there is little to no stigma attached to feeding at the public trough. It’s almost reversed to where those who don’t are looked on as the dumb ones.
There's a large, fixed costs associated with hiring anyone and large potential liability and legal threats. Prospective employers are reluctant to pay those costs and put up with legal risks, so even if unemployment checks were withdrawn, many would still be unemployable. It just isn't worth it to hire marginally productive people.
They'd be employable without government burdens, though.
I don't think older folks understand just how much more difficult and expensive the government has made it to employ people today (unless they're running a business). There's so little flexibility in hiring and Medicare and Social Security taxes put a 7.5% tax on every dollar (practically) spent on employee wages.
The young used to be able to show up at an office or place of business right out of high school (or earlier) and right away be given something to do for a modest amount of money. No way today. Too risky and too expensive.
The Republicans would destroy the Democrats if they just did something to reform employment rules and payroll taxes.
The Republicans are just as knee deep in it as the Rats are.

Welfare changed in 1996, and will have to change further, because whites have discovered it the way their urban brethren did decades ago (and adjusted their work/breeding habits accordingly). While this helps the likes of President Food Stamps get elected, it has ruined the economy and is unsustainable.
For sure! Much of the job fair scene is nothing more than theatre as I am sure you have discovered. Way too many of the companies are not even hiring. They are just attending an event to prove they cannot find Americans for a position so they can import an Hb-1 indentured servant. I applied for a position once at one of these shows where my resume had about 99 percent of what they specified in an ideal candidate. The recruiter pretended to be all excited and promised a call back within the next few days. Not a peep. They were conveniently never available when I called back, nor did they return a phone call. Total scam!
Jeff Sessions mentioned this in his last speech before recess that big business should be looking for less regulation instead of cheap labor.
