Had black leaders listened to Booker T Washington and not WEB duBois we might not be having this conversation. It’s amazing when you travel through black communities, urban Harlem, suburban Hempstead and see few if any black owned businesses save hair salons and barber shops.The author is correct,economic power is the basis of political clout. Too bad they did not accept that a century ago and relied on the govt to protect and advance their agendas.

WEB DuBois was an outright Communist...and was even visiting the USSR before the US recognized it. Look what it has done for Blacks
The other part of what she states is correct. If black communities had the business of the residents in the area, it would serve them well. It would involve a different culture than what we have now. When a business opens in these areas, theft, "no snitching", violent crime and dangers getting to and from them make success impossible. Nothing changes until the black communities change.
