I’m not sure about the numbers quoted for Muslim slave trade or how they were arrived at. They sound somewhat on the high side to me, particularly the death rates.
If background information on these numbers is available, I’d like to see it.
Not all slaves went into the Atlantic trade. Many went to Muslim countries, across the Sahara, with many dying along the way. The Muslim slave trade had been in place for 600 years before the Atlantic trade started.
Eunuchs were especially prized by Arab buyers, and the process had a high death rate. Generally, men destined to be eunuchs were castrated before the journey, and survivors taken.
