Obama seeks Syria support from former foe McCain
Associated Press ^ | Sep. 2, 2013 4:38 AM EDT | Bradley Klapper

President Barack Obama is inviting former foe Sen. John McCain to the White House, hoping one of Congress’ most intractable foreign policy hawks will help sell the idea of a U.S. military intervention in Syria to a nation deeply scarred by more than a decade of war. …

In an interview with an Israeli television network, (McCain) said Obama has “encouraged our enemies” by effectively punting his decision to Congress. He and fellow Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina have threatened to vote against Obama’s authorization if the military plan doesn’t seek to shift the momentum of the 2½ year civil war toward the rebels trying to oust Assad from power. …

“It will involve the US in a bloody Mideast conflict.”

And likely bring Israel into an active war.

What we should be doing now, IF the objective was to strengthen the US and put us in the position to stabilize the world most effectively, is to get back our economic strength to as high a level as possible, while not contributing to the economic stabilization of those who are our enemies. That requires a concentration on energy independence - so that we aren’t sending those dollars to the Middle East, on maximizing those areas in which we lead the world (e.g. pharmaceuticals, biomedical devices, specific areas of high tech electronics, rekindling our space program with a commercial arm that sells satellite launches etc., high quality agriculture, etc. etc.). We, on the other hand, seem to have chosen the course of self-destruction as a nation.

CURL: Obama’s 2014 calculation: Let’s have a war

By Joseph Curl

Sunday, September 1, 2013

The first rule for President Obama: It’s all about 2014. The second rule for President Obama: See Rule No. 1.

Make no mistake: The president couldn’t care less about the plight of Syrians, the 1,500 gassed to death — including nearly 500 children. It’s all about 2014. Win the House, reign supreme.

Consider this: Mr. Obama made his dramatic Rose Garden statement Saturday — then headed to the golf course. Congress has no plans to cut short its 30-day vacation, and the president did not call lawmakers back. So much for urgency.

The conventional wisdom is, as usual, wrong. Losing the congressional vote won’t be an embarrassment for the president, as all the talking heads are still parroting. A loss would be a double win. First, because a “No” vote would allow the foreign policy neophyte to walk away from his blundering “red line” declaration on chemical weapons (“I wanted to go in, but Congress said no”). And second, should Republicans who voted for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars now oppose Syria, the president would be armed with clear “evidence” that their opposition is purely political.

I tend to agree. Danged if we go ... Danged if we do not go. No win either way.

This what McCain loves. This is what he craves and lives for. He longs to be the guy. Obama, and Kerry will now exploit this and play McCain and Lindsey Graham like a couple of cheap harlots.

Mark my words, within the next 24 hours McCain will be enthusiastically towing the Obama line and “calling on his colleagues to do the right thing.”

Mark my words.

I disagree. The vote must be NO. Forget Barry and Johnny they have screwed everything they halved touched. Benghazi ,Cairo, Iraq, and now Syria. It’s starting off as a Misadventure from the get go. Why are we doing Saudis dirty work and spending our great grandchildren’s money for the Saudis. We are in debt and being mismanaged be on belief. No vote

Is that “we have nothing to fear from an Obama presidency” McCain? Obama and McCain are the two-headed hydra.

John McCave-in is even now sounding his last hurrah. There is no glory, however, in choosing winners and losers among different bands of thugs in the Middle East. The more secular of the thugs want to establish a zone of largely unchallenged authority over a limited area, while the Islamic jihadists want to extend that zone of unchallenged authority over the entire planet. The Worldwide Caliphate, however, is a phantom, because there are several different branches of Islam, each of which believes themselves to be the One True Way, and these factions will fight to the last man standing to assert their supremacy over any of the other interpretations of Islam.

The winner of this conflict, if there is one, then has the full authority to establish the Worldwide Caliphate, which involves dividing all humanity into three strata. At the top, of course are the Noble Islamic Gentlemen, who are given the divine right by Allah to interpret the holy writ of the Koran, and to apply the logical conclusions to everybody and everything on earth. Next in rank, are the Dhimmi, who are thralls held by the Noble Islamic Gentlemen as virtual and sometimes very real slaves, required to pay an annual tax, jizya or jizyah, a per capita tax levied on a section of an Islamic state’s non-Muslim citizens, who meet certain criteria, i.e., able-bodied adult males of military age and affording power. Also included in the Dhimmi, but not subject to the tax, is the entire female gender, regardless of whether they profess belief in Islam as their primary religion or not.

The third and most troublesome category, the Kufir, or the “infidels” who do not swear to hold Allah in honor, or in some way defame the Prophet Mohammed, are subject to slaughter upon capture and the refusal to acknowledge the supremacy of Islam over all other religions.

Supposedly, the Islamic jihadists are supposed to offer the captured antagonists a choice of either converting to Islam, or retaining their own set of beliefs but accepting the supremacy of Islam, or for those who choose neither of the first two, death on the spot, normally by beheading.

Seems sort of arbitrary. What if... well, maybe, Allah or the Prophet Mohammed turn out to be WRONG? Allah may be a divinity, but perhaps only a lesser angel, like Lucifer, or maybe Ahriman? Both are destructive spirits, much in line with the various passages of the “divinely inspired” Koran, as it was written down by a sun-crazed old sand hermit.

>>McCain is a War Hero.

He’s not even that. War heroes win wars. They destroy the enemy in great numbers. They infiltrate the enemy and blow up his supplies.

McCain’s heroics were that he survived being shot down and then survived a prison camp, where the only alternative was a meaningless and obscure death. For that, he’s a heroic person.

But Audie Murphy was a war hero. Michael P. Murphy is a war hero. Ty Carter is a war hero. McCain is just a survivor. And today, he sees his political survival depending on being the “opposition” sycophant of Obama.

Knowing McCain, he’ll give Obama that support in spades. He just can’t resist an opportunity to reach out to his friends across the aisle -especially when it hurts the conservatives.
