Its already in play...If the union goes insolvent...Texasxwill take a tremendous hit, but unlike many other states in this union, we have the infrastructure to sustain an economy and security that can be implemented fairly quickly...
What will be a problem will be the rapid influx of refugees trying to get in before we can effectively lock it all down...It’ll be messy, but I believe it will work itself out in short order...

I really like the way that sounds.
I overlooked that little gem in the article, but I've thought the same thing for quite some time now. I don't think the people of this state ever intended to strive toward such independence, but darned if we haven't done it by default anyway.

You know, when it all gets to be too much, and it seems as though the whole world is coming apart, my wife and I often remind each other that we couldn't be in a better place for such an eventuality.
I can honestly see Texas keeping a fair semblance of normal life in place, should the rest of the country crash to the ground. It's definitely a comforting thought.

Thanks for the link. The article, IMO, is somewhat misleading and still doesn’t go into the pitfalls that could be encountered. The amendment does allow some light to finally shine on the issue and provides a reason to bring the potential pitfalls of reverse mortgages up for discussion which really didn’t happen at the time of the original legislation.
I still contend that the entire program - legal of not - is very much one of “buyer beware”. Anything that is backed by HUD, FHA, bankers and real estate companies makes me see red flags which have Agenda 21 written all over them. In the interest of caution and to protect the assets of our citizens who may not be aware of the ramifications and long term financial impact of choosing this option, I do urge that they seek professional advice and certainly from someone other than Fred Thompson and his recommendation on TV.
I don’t live in TX but my sense of it is that your demographics are changing - and not for the better. Mass migration from Mexico and from CA and other liberal states are bound to have negative effects on the consevative/liberal mix. I wish you well.

Great idea on Boot Dewhurst thread. Thought we might get some relief on property taxes this year but looks like they decided to restore school funding in spite of the fact that our appraised values went up and so did our taxes. They did have some legislation dealing with TXDOT and their need to increase their fund balance. Couple of weeks later I got a letter from TXDOT saying my pre-paid EZPass account had to have a minimum balance of at least $40.00 at all times and our tolls all went up. How’s that for a creative way to get other people to solve the problem rather than cutting expenses???

Politics is never pretty. If they can’t take the heat they shouldn’t run.
Dewhurst is really putting a lot of staffing boots on the ground. Apparently he is taking some heat over his actions following the arrest of his cousin a couple of weeks back.
Dewhurst needs to go...and I think he will.
So yes, within living memory. The tax that paid for that war? They just took that off of our phone bills a few years ago. Go figure.
