Sen. Cruz [the adult in the room]: Attacking Syria Is Not In National Interest
Real Clear Politics ^ | Aug 28, 2013 | Hannity/Cruz interview

Posted on 09/02/2013 7:31:43 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Recommend watching the great video at the source for an example of how Cruz conducts himself as a constitutional conservative and patriot. Jim

SEAN HANNITY: Here with reaction to this and much more is Texas Senator Ted Cruz. Senator, thanks for being with us. What should the response be from your perspective?

SEN. TED CRUZ, R-TEXAS: Well, Secretary Kerry is right that Assad using chemical weapons is an outrage and it's wrong. But unfortunately missing from his statement and from the president's approach so far has been a focus on what the touchstone should be, which is the vital U.S. national security interest of this country.

The United States Armed Forces is not -- doesn't exist to be a policeman for the world. And I certainly hope the reaction isn't simply lobbing some cruise missiles in to disagree with Assad's murderous actions. Rather, our focus should be on protecting our national security, which leads to two things.

Number one, under no circumstances should we be arming rebels who are affiliated with al-Qaeda. And this administration has already suggested they want to arm the rebels with no reliable means of differentiating al-Qaeda from non-al-Qaeda.

And number two, our concern should be those chemical weapons, preventing them from falling into the hands of Hezbollah, preventing them from falling into the hands of al-Qaeda. That should be guiding our actions, not expressing some moral outrage from a university faculty lounge...

He nailed it! And the rebels are exterminating Christians - what's the position of the Obama Regime on that fact?

Cruz is a lawyer. A great constitutional/states rights/individual rights advocate. As Texas Solicitor General argued and won several key Supreme Court cases on issue that are near and dear to our hearts.

Cruz grabbed my attention during the filibuster with Rand Paul and Ted Cruz spoke about fighting against the Bush administration in favor of state rights.

He could have done what many republicans would do and simply weasel to avoid a fight with a president he supported but he showed integrity and stood up for the right thing no matter what.

Amazingly, Allen Colmes, the token liberal, on Fox today said that is the way he thought, if it doesn’t effect us directly, don’t get involved.

It’s the same test as the illegal aliens ‘debate’: What’s best for the USA?
I’m weary of hearing about the families ‘torn apart’ and Syrians’ concerns and best interests.
Illegals and 3rd world internecine disputes consume our blood and treasure and roil the religion of death.
Cruz is right. We don’t have any business poking that hornets’ nest with a stick: six months from now they’ll be shooting us in the backs and the UN will be calling us bad names.
Go pound sand, Obama & comrades/Brothers.

That’s well said, I saw CNN today actually was interviewing one of the “Generals” of the FSA, Free Syrian Army, “our friends in congress” he said. That was something I hadn’t seen before, if one is gullible?

Some of those ‘Syrian resistance’ are former Baghdaddy fighters while others are al-Queda. They receive Wahhabi support as well: Barry’s benefactors, the ones he kowtows to.
Well, they’re wanting to rent our military might and troops again.

This is just crazy stuff, as if Barry has a bet with Soros:
“OK, a hundred to one that I can have us providing missiles and air support to the guys we’re shooting at in Africa and Afghanistan.”
“Deal?”

At the same time, it doesn’t make any less sense than our border security.
America is cloud cuckoo land under Zero.

Can't say how many times I have yelled at TV and radio (figuratively) when media tries throwing curves about Syria.

It doesn't matter what or why, we do not have an interest in Syria. Screw both sides in that civil war. And if that isn't enough, how about this last one: Rodeo Clown is a feckless leader and will get good men killed. Then send more men into help them. Then he'll blame Bush.

The coming debate — as ubama and the neocons try to force a new war down our throats — will be a great opportunity for Cruz to shine as the leading spokesman for real Americans against the statists.

If I see two street thugs fighting I never seem to feel the need to get involved.

"And number two, our concern should be those chemical weapons, preventing them from falling into the hands of Hezbollah, preventing them from falling into the hands of al-Qaeda.

But how does he do that while saying 'attacking Syria is not in National Interest'? How do we do that without attacking Syria? That needs to be clarified. The mushroom cloud has morphed into chemical weapons. We need to be out, no exceptions, out period.

Nothing needs to be clarified, it isn’t our problem period.

Agree. And Cruz should get off the ‘chemical weapons falling into wrong hands’ war shtick.
