I bring them into the yard and track down their [very grateful and relieved] owners or find them new homes if nobody claims them.
I like my way better.

We don’t shoot dogs willy-nilly. If it has a collar then we leash them and call the owner. With the large number of dogs that wander onto the property without a collar, we’d need to start a kennel to house them all. It’s bad enough we have to haul them off to the ‘outback’ area where the bears and coyotes finish them off. It looks like a boneyard there.

I like your approach, and it is mine as well. The last dog I picked up, was a very large pitbull that was walking down the middle of a county road with a 60 mph speed limit. I stopped, called him over and he hopped right into my truck. Since I have three pitbulls and a doberman, we kept them separated while we searched for the owner. Lucky dog got to sleep in our bed for three nights, protected from my dogs.
It's amazing to me that people can take such different approaches to circumstances. It also reveals one's true character, as related to all of God's miracles of creation.
