Russian Expert says Mideast made narrow escape from Major War Tuesday

MOSCOW, September 3 (Itar-Tass) - Launching of two ballistic missiles in the Mediterranean water area testifies to the ongoing U.S. preparations for air strikes against Syria, a top-rank Russian military expert said in an exclusive interview with Itar-Tass Tuesday night.

The U.S. and Israel actually wanted to watch the reaction to the launch on the part of Russia, China and Iran, said Colonel-General Leonid Ivashov, Ret. From 1996 through to 2001, Gen Ivashov was chief of the Russian Defense Ministry’s Main Department for International Defense Cooperation. He is President of the Academy of Geopolitical Problems at present.

He believes that the missiles were launched for the purposes of reconnaissance.

“The thing is ballistic missiles won’t be used if the U.S. and their allies begin an intervention in Syria,” Gen Ivashov said. “While a cruise missile can hit directly not only the target as such but even a separate element of it, a ballistic missile very definitely won’t hit the target due to the impact dispersal effect. Hence it’s inefficient for the purpose.”

“Those who launched the two ballistic missiles towards Syria obviously hoped Iran would consider this launch as an attack on Damascus, its ally,” Gen Ivashov went on. “The Pentagon clearly wanted to see if the Iranians would respond to this by delivering a ballistic missile strike at Israel.”

This morning's unannounced missle launch was picked up by the Russian Early Warning Network, and for a few minutes, they about crapped their pants, thinking WW3 was starting.

THEY ARE P**SED about it, and the Russian General Staff is gathering in Moscow.

It’s becoming increasingly clear that Premier Obama won’t be content merely to destroy the American economy and society; he wants to subject us all to nuclear annihilation.

What a way to go.

The G-20 summit in St. Pete is going to be epic.
Putin is going to think of some clever ways to humiliate Obama.
That’s just for starters.

Satan works best in a background of chaos and confusion.

His son presently inhabits the White House.

And we have an effeminate (being nice here), spineless, muslem in charge ... when the chips are down. We get what we deserve I guess.

They saw us providing air support for ‘moderate’ Libyans.
Gladys Obama and his Pips won’t be allowed that move again.
Barry’s really wedged his skinny butt in a crack this time, the feckless, irresponsible ... wouldn’t last 6 weeks as a PX Dept. manager, grumble

Clever would be Putin to announce on National TV his own “Red Line” against U.S.

No, they did not do this to elicit an Iranian response. They did it to prepare for one. Oh, yeah....they also wanted to see if you were paying attention, what systems were being used, and how you would respond. Kinda like the bomber flights you’ve resumed near Britain and Guam. I’d say welcome back, Ivan, but some of us knew you never left.

He already did that, on Friday at the UN, and again when he ordered his ships to prepare for “a serious Confrontation with the United States” just before dark local time on Saturday.

It sure explains Obama’s sudden about face. Would have loved to be a fly on the wall when the NSA called to tell him that, which was probably just hours away from a U.S. strike.

Like Krushev humiliating Kennedy at Vienna following the U-2 downing.
I can’t remember if the Bay of Pigs fiasco was before or after.
But yeah, Putin is going to manhandle Urkel. More embarrassment for him. Mebbe he could bow and scrape to the Russ as he does with his Saudi Overlords. What a disgrace.

As someone that spent 8 years playing tag with Ivan over the pacific/arctic, I’ve always paid attention to what is going on in Russia.

It’s safe to say that Putin feels confident enough in the improvement in Russian capabilities, that he can at least hold a limited line against Obama militarily.

And Obama and his advisors never saw it coming....

Colonel-General Leonid Ivashov?

How does that compare to a Brigadier General, Major General, Lieutenant General, and General?

I suppose above the Lieutenant General but, below the General Rank.

General-Colonel is a three-star
General-Lieutenant is two-star
General-Major (most likely shortened from Sergeant-major, just like the US) is one-star.
