I think one of the worst consequences of 9/11 was the flood of money that went to agencies—federal, state, and local—to outfit these sorts of teams. It’s absurd that a local police force now has a SWAT team that they’re using to serve a summons for not mowing your grass.

Thanks B4, we live in Eagle, 50 miles up the road from 40 mile bridge. Up here in Eagle, we had our own problems a couple years back. The park cops ended up fired (one was a convicted felon, How'd get hired?)and we got new ones that go outta their way to be nice to the locals.

It all comes down to whether we have a dem or repub in the White House. When Repub, no problems from BLM, Park Service, ect. When dems are in, it's Gestapo Games from US Govt; kinda a shame actually, cause often the local Park Supers are good people, not instigators from DC. Soon as Obama came in they got a wolf luvin greenie at Yukon Charlie. He made a comment to the locals that if visitors to the park didn't hear wolves a howlin, he wasn't doing his job. Man, the locals eat moose, not wolves; they were ready to tar & feather the guy. By the same token when Repubs are in, we get decent park Superintendents. Reality is when the Dems are in there's bull crap happening from time to time, opposite when Repubs are in.

We're so far removed that not many people get upset about anything unless it's happening to them, then there might be trouble, gun fire, and the like. Seems like it has always been that way in America I believe. What I find funny is that Dave character mentioned in the article is a liberal democrap, couldn't be happening to a better guy.
