And a missed revenue opportunity. HBO is airing a documentary called Glickman. It’s the story of Marty Glickman, and I recommend it to everyone who loves sports, and sports announcing.
Anyway, he was the guy who put Tennis on the TV map. Used to be they only broadcast the finals, and a rival network (NBC, I think) had it already. He told ABC to go after the first three days and broadcast that. Made a ton of money for both Tennis and the network.
NCAA Div III and lower teams are outstanding, and they have loyal local followings. Oregon State, ranked 25 this last weekend was beat by EWU, which you’d be forgiven for not knowing - Eastern Washington University, which has won numerous Div III titles, regional and national.
Appalachian State beat Michigan last year, which made my entire season.
ESPN is the Microsoft of sports. Time for a new operating system in sports beside the BCS, for example.
It was a heck of showing for the FCS schools. Kansas State, San Diego State and South Florida, fell, too, IIRC.
EWU is FCS (the old I-AA) not D3.
