Detroit’s police chief is cracking down on his own staff in an effort to improve police response times — with two dispatchers potentially facing criminal complaints for acting too slow in cases where victims ended up dead or critically wounded.

In a separate incident in August, a 911 dispatcher is accused of not sending a police vehicle to the scene of a domestic dispute involving a gun — when a vehicle was, in fact, available.
The woman allegedly called 911 six times begging for help, and by the time officers arrived an hour later she had been critically wounded by an AK-47. An internal affairs investigation into that case is ongoing.
Craig told the Detroit News the actual response time, once the dispatcher alerted officers, was only eight minutes. The shooter is still on the loose.

Good! I don’t know what the excuse was, but I imagine a union worker upset about some pension cut or something. I worked with a PEU for years and that’s what they do, slow down their work whenever there is a budget problem.

If those people had a gun they wouldn’t have to mess with 911. Even if a cop was within five minutes or less ......ya know.

I can’t see how any charges will stick unless the dispatcher’s actions were purposefully criminal. If the dispatcher is liable then so too is the police department, the city, and probably the county. USSC case Warren vs DC will probably cause this case to disappear.
Remedy: Defend yourself.
Problem: Men and women weren't created "equal," so how
to defend yourself?
Remedy: Smith and Wesson fixed that.
Conclusion: When seconds count, cops are just minutes away. Unless you run into pi$$ed dispatcher, then all bets are off. Sooo, buy a weapon, learn to use it, shoot the MFer.

I suspect that once they read the union contract they will drop the charges because the union contract trumps the law, morality, ethics, honesty and integrity every time. Just a little attempt at a power play by the uninformed.
Sounds like a Stalinist Russia back to 1930s. Low ranking officials were first to be punished for a moral bankruptcy, social disfunction and bad planning brought by communism.
No toilet paper at store, no gas at the pump! What a crappy manager you are? You said no toilet paper is ever produced these days because all the cellulose went to print a commie propaganda and all the gas is confiscated by the state? Do you mean it is a Party’s fault, you enemy of the people?!!
Is it dispatchers’ fault that Detroit’s crime rate is ahead of Baghdad’s and it’s police force is both incompetent due to small wages and ten times shorter than needed?
But the unwashed masses might be pleased because in their mind it is a dispatcher who can’t help a bit.
Detroit already leads the nation in defensive shootings by a wide margin.
