For the first time in a decade, immigration flow to South Texas greater than Arizona

A costly game of cat and mouse unfolds nightly along the banks of the Rio Grande in South Texas. The number of immigrants crossing illegally there has doubled in the last four years, making it the busiest section along the Southwest border.

As night fell outside Mission, Texas in late August the Rio Grande looked deceivingly peaceful under the glimmer of a full moon.

Suddenly through a pair of night vision goggles, a Border Patrol agent spotted movement. He picked up his radio. “Ey, can you tell what’s on the raft,” he said.

On the river ahead of him a mother and her two infant boys floated across on a raft. She scampered onto U.S. soil, but her taste of success was brief. She was apprehended and ended up in the back seat of a Border Patrol suburban.

The woman had traveled from Guatemala. She told the Border Patrol she was on her way to reunite with her husband in the United States. Her fate will now be a detention center and likely deportation.

This year, Border Patrol has detained nearly 200,000 people from Del Rio to Brownsville. While apprehensions across the southern border are at record lows, South Texas is the one spot where the numbers are rising again. “We could apprehend anywhere between 100 and 200 a shift,” said Mark Foster, a Border Patrol supervisor. “On the weekend its very hard to get all the incursions dealt with, with the manpower that we have.”

In response to the increased traffic the Border Patrol is shifting more manpower and resources, like night vision technology and mobile towers, to South Texas. By the end of this year the Rio Grande Valley Sector expects to have 600 more agents.

Because the illegals in TX are somehow constituently different than the illegals in TN?

Or MS?

Or NJ?

Maybe there’s something in the water that will turn them into marrying, non aborting, hard working non welfare sucking patriotic Americans who don’t view the entire SW as their ‘homeland’ that was stolen by the gringo?

I thought this whole immgration from MX thing was a really great idea too, about 15 years ago. What’s not to ‘love’? They’re ‘family values oriented’, they’re Christian, they’re ‘hard working’? Right?

Except they have more bastard children than legitimate ones, regularly have these kids as teens, even young teen. They’re far more ‘Social Justice’ oriented than Christian and the hard working ones are first generation males only. And even they usually get paid cash under the table so the little mamacita can continue to get welfare bennies for all their illegitimate kids. And a majority of them receive welfare of some sort. Even the ones that work. The SECOND generation are plugged right into the whole government teat thing, having grown up on it...

I fail to see how we can be ‘improved’ by immigration from ANY country where the age of consent is TWELVE.

Apparently ‘family values’ start on the girls 12th birthday. And she’s ‘fair game’ after that.

Let me explain in detail why we will never, as a family, visit Mexico. My 12yr old daughter could, theoretically, leave the room to go get a coke out of the machine, be raped by the janitor and it isn’t AUTOMATICALLY a crime. It’s just a ‘he said she said’.

TWELVE YEARS OLD. This means that TWELVE year old rape victims have to take the stand.

Hey, let’s import lots of people with this mindset! Right?

Some ‘Christian’ family values. Even my redneck hillbilly ancestors didn’t marry off TWELVE year olds.

All your major cities are now blue & Cruz lost the hispanic vote....so spare us the “future belongs” to the Texas GOP. The writing is on the wall.

God bless Texas and y’all here and I know that you’re deeply involved and very knowledgeable about Texas politics, Marcella.

I read the article your linked, which backs your statements, however, I’m sure you will agree that this “Immigration Reform” is squarely aimed at Texas and other ‘red’ states in the West such as Arizona with the intent to turn them “blue” which it most assuredly will, like Reagan’s amnesty turned CA blue within a matter of one presidential cycle. (GHWB won CA in ‘88 - no Republican since).

You and others are doing a magnificent job in Texas right now, but if Immigration Reform passes, all bets are off. The vast majority of those illegal aliens are democrats in waiting and the DNC knows it. Were they Republicans in waiting, there would be no Immigration Reform!

Governor Perry knows this and he’s fighting for Texas every step of the way with Voter ID and fighting Holder’s unconstitutional challenges.

God speed.

Exactly right.

If Mexicans were future Republicans the democrats would have installed mine fields on the southern border.

And California would be a lock for the Republicans.

Demographics in TX are such that, even if amnesty isn’t passed, it will be blue within a little more than a decade. There are simply more of them being born. When those legal kids begin voting in a few years it’s all over but the shouting.

It appears you still cling to the notion that hispanics are inherently conservative because they are either A) Catholic or B) Social Conservatives

it is the greatest canard foisted on us the past 20-30 years as conservatives and is wholly untrue

I presented to you how they have voted in Texas the past 4 presidential elections and even for a latino candidate Ted cruz

not once have they voted over 40% for anyone GOP statewide

yet you say they are trending GOP by your notion in Texas

I don’t think the empiroical truth matters to you but thankfully whereas denial like yours was once the standard here and opposing that denial was dangerous ...that is no longer the case.

So please feel free to keep your head in the sand.

Btw...I am not from Tennessee but rather Mississippi but...it gets better trust me.

I lived in Dallas off Turtle creek as a lad and in Lumberton, Corpus and Austin and my family maintained a 12,000 acre deer lease on lake Buchanan near Burnet 20 years

My dad worked for Texas Industries , his first job after USAF ..I think it’s now part of Gifford Hill concrete

We were a large pipeline sub for Brown and Root for years till we sold it off after dad’s death. We specialized in water crossing. Hence..we were in Houston...a lot.

My uncle lives in Pritchett between Gladewater and Gilmer where I go a couple times a year and intend to visit next month during fall break with side trips to NOLA first and then Dallas for wifey to shop

My goddaughter is in Houston (Katy) and her mom in Lakeway.

And the icing on the cake is my cousin is a Dalla Cowboy cheerleader.

I think I’m qualified to comment on Texas

I wish you no ill will ma’am but you are truly in denial about how latinos actually vote and are clinging to hopes rather than reality

That article but GOPe flagship Forbes had no data just editorial

The voting stats are easily accessed...I already knew them but double checked. Latinos in America vote left ...even Cubans. It is not trending our way but rather the opposite.

Why do you think the Dems want to grant them amnesty so bad.

Conservatives have dropped the ball so badly not realizing blood trumps all...just look at Rubio.

Cruz may be the exception I hope he is.

I’ll just say I am privy to our state Republican plans/efforts that are ongoing right now and those will continue and grow and believe we are in good shape to meet the challenge.

As far as 2016 is concerned, I’m not sure the country will be functioning at all by then. And, if Syria and Hussein start WWIII in the coming weeks, it’s a different ball game all over the world. Texas is in better shape than any other state to survive with less damage to our standard of living if that happens. This situation is our present danger, not elections down the road.
