I think Boehner and Canter did the absolute right thing knowing they’ll heat from us. Had they made this a political thing, Obama would have the cover he needed.
I don’t think they voted yes because they favor us bombing Syria, they voted yes to allow the president to do what he wishes, which he could do in the first place.
Secondly, they have not come out pushing other republicans to vote on this, thirdly Boehner may hold off a vote all together.
In summary, Boenher in this case is not an a hole. He’s playing this very smart by not allowing Obama to hide beyond partisan republicans or even Congress. Boehner is letting Obama make the decision.

1.boehner has let obozo escape more than once when he was in political quicksand.
2.boehner has carried water for obozo.
3.boehner has never failed to put his foot on the necks of GOP congress members who take a different position than his.
4.boehner is not clever, smart, that politically astute, or capable of the kind of nuanced, strategic thinking that your scenario would require.
5.boehner has always acted like someone who has been bought off or compromised in some way by never srongly opposing anything obozo has done to destroy our republic.

The only reason Boehner would hold off the vote is if the "leadership" deemed there were not enough votes to support the President taking military action. And, the only person this would benefit would be Obama as he would have avoided the embarrassment of a negative vote by the U.S. House on a world-wide stage.
