Pro-life activists to hold memorial services at graves of aborted babies country-wide on Sept. 14

STATEN ISLAND, NY, April 24, 2013 (LifeSiteNews) – On September 14, memorials will take place at gravesites of aborted children all over the United States, to mourn their loss and pray for an end to abortion.

The “National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children” will be the first nationwide event to honor infants killed by abortion. Organizers say the event will be held annually for as long as abortion is legal.

Citizens for a Pro-Life Society, Priests for Life and the Pro-Life Action League have organized the nationwide observance, which will be marked by simultaneous memorial services in multiple cities.

Pro-life activists have buried the bodies of aborted infants at more than twenty-five locations in the United States. Many of their bodies were retrieved from trash bins outside abortion clinics, or pathology labs where the bodies of aborted babies are often shipped.

According to event organizers, some graves have hundreds of bodies buried in them.

“Since 1973, over 50 million unborn children have been killed and only a small fraction of these victims were humanely buried because pro-lifers took them from the trash,” said Monica Migliorino Miller, director of Citizens for a Pro-Life Society. “These graves puncture the landscape and are a tragic and visible reminder that we must end the injustice of abortion.  Memorial services, right at the graves of the victims, will be a powerful public witness to our nation that abortion truly kills innocent human beings, and serve as a call for justice, healing and forgiveness.”

The website AbortionMemorials.com has been established for the Sept. 14 services. There, visitors can find more information on the burials that have taken place over the decades and details about the Day of Remembrance services. Those interested in holding their own services can find information about how to get started.  Local leaders and activists are still needed to help organize some memorial services, say organizers.

“It’s sobering to realize that grave markers for the unborn victims of abortion list only a date of burial,” said Eric Scheidler, Executive Director of the Pro-life Action League. “They have no birthdays because they were never allowed to be born. We can list no date of death, because those who killed them discarded their bodies like garbage. But they are not garbage to us. They are our brothers and sisters. That’s why we buried them, and that's why we visit their graves to mourn for them and testify to their humanity.”

Fr. Frank Pavone, who directs Priests for Life, said he hopes the memorials will remind the public that real human beings are killed by abortion.  “Abortion is not an abstract issue,” Fr. Pavone said. “Having a memorial service where these babies are buried reminds us that abortion is not merely about beliefs, but about bloodshed; not just about viewpoints, but victims.”

Please consider attending one of these services in your community. If you are in Albany, NY, St. Ann's Maronite and St. Madeleine Sophie Catholic Churches have teamed up to conduct a memorial service for the 17 aborted babies at Albany Rural Cemetery. The service will be held at 1pm followed by some light refreshments at St. Ann's. Freepmail me for more information.

Amazing that some states are not listed on that link. Sad.
