John Kerry on Syria: how a gaffe could stop a war
The Guardian ^ | September 10, 2013 | Jonathan Freedland

Write a new chapter in the diplomatic handbook. Dedicate it to the off-the-cuff remark – the gaffe, even – which averts a war.

We don't yet know if John Kerry's apparently unplanned comment in London, suggesting Syria could avoid a US military strike by turning over its stash of chemical weapons, has set in train a process that will ultimately prevent armed American action. But Barack Obama described it as a "possible breakthrough" and the relief can be felt across multiple world capitals.

Of course the practical problems are legion – one report claims that getting rid of Syria's chemical weapons stockpile could take not weeks or months but "years". Nevertheless, this latest initiative deserves to be taken seriously because it gives all the key players something they need. Crucially, it would allow the antagonists to step back from the brink without losing face.

Look at Kerry’s face. He is on steroids or something. It is all puffed up. Must be where he got his “courage”.

Well a gaffe by the King set up this lovely situation, so naturally a gaffe might avoid an action. Pray that the morons who are running this Country can hit a few more slop shots!

It’s like watching F Troop again, with Kerry playing Capt. Wilton Parmenter.

Gaffe? Try “stupidity” or “incompetence” and you’ll be edging your way closer to the truth.

Well, no matter what he said or how he said it, both Kerry and odumbo will claim it was in their plans all along.

“Never let a good gaffe go to waste”.

Of course the real stupidity is that this gang that cannot shoot straight believes their own idiocy. This will result in Assad becoming firmly ensconced in power with the full support of the US military charged with the responsibility of caring for the WMD cache.
That these weapons are indestructible as a practical reality and can be made in a soup kitchen are irrelevancies to clown alley. They have dodged another bullet shot directly into their own foot through some fancy footwork indeed.

This is all kabuki BS.

You don’t think this was all planned out in Leningrad last week?

Lets all open our eyes.

They’ve dodged nothing. There isn’t a thinking person in the world that doesn’t now know that the jug-eared moron is an incompetent, clueless, insecure, limp-wristed pansy. He is seen for what he is.... a narcissistic, ignorant, lazy blowhard, convinced of his own “brilliance” despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

Assad will now deploy his chemical weapons as a shield, manned by UN troops (defending the weapons), so that he can focus his forces on the rebels. Best case scenario for him; he gets 30-40k Russian ground troops to do the work, while the U.S. pays the bill.

Meanwhile, Russia will be seen as the protector of the faith, an astute agent of state craft, and a trusted ally.

This is what happens when you elect a small time communist to POTUS and staff his administration with buffoons.

And this distraction gives the Rodeo Clown some much needed cover to feed his Al Qaeda/Muslim Brotherhood pals some more aid under the table.

The issue was chemical weapons use only. Nothing about so called casualties of war. And I’m sure that Putin is going to give Assad any help that he wants to fight rebels.

Actually I believe this is the answer to prayers sent to God from millions of people around the world. It was not a coincidence that those words came out of Kerry's mouth. God said he would put words in the mouth of people. (not that I think Kerry intended it) just God acting in his own mysterious way.

We keep talking about Syria’s Chemical weapons. Are they really Syria’s weapons or are they Iraq’s weapons delivered to Syria by Hussein?

Did Syria build these weapons or did Hussein and was Bush right about WMD?

No one seems to want to point that out.

How much further would we be in trouble if the Al Qaeda rebels got these weapons?

Let’s wipe out the rebels and then get rid of Assad. One way or the other. Political assassinations are not unheard of.

John Kerry: The Accidental Diplomat. The man is incapable of constructing an original thought, then takes credit for Russian defusing. If this is Obama’s version of “Missiles of October” the Ruskies look like they are coming out ahead. So....where going to send in the same weapons inspectors who were being shot at a few months back? How’s THAT gonna work?

The use of chemical weapons (whoever did it) was a convenient excuse for the Rodeo Clown to get involved.

"You never want a good crisis to go to waste."

And of course Putin will help Assad, Russia's been doing that for years.

It must have been the gaffe about the “incredibly small” intervention that did it. I guess when the Syrians realized we might use our very, little, teentsy missiles on them, they caved.

Thank you, cave man Kerry.
