Enough Already: Syria Wasn’t a False-Flag Operation
http://www.thedailybeast.com ^ | 9/10/2013 | Jamelle Bouie

This was linked from Yahoo's front page as titled. DB headline:

Enough Already: Syria Wasn’t a False-Flag Operation

But conspiracy theories have never been about plausibility. More than anything, they reflect our uneasiness with the modern world, its complexity, and often its capriciousness. And at times, they’re a natural consequence of past actions. Given the circumstances of the war in Iraq—where high-level officials, up to and including the president, misled the public—it’s not a surprise that some people are paranoid about the situation in Syria.

Still, for any given situation, the best we can do is evaluate the evidence we have and press for more. And right now, what we can see is that chemical weapons were used in Syria to kill a lot of people, and Bashar al-Assad’s regime—if not Assad himself—is responsible.

They're still at it. Yahoo's front page headline

KEYWORDS: assad; chemical; conspiracytheory; obama; syria
Don't get me started on Yahoo's use of Chuck Norris to push their agenda (another matter, but on Syria also... let alone what he wrote).

(didn't cross the threshold for 'barf alert'; just 'propaganda alert')

What “we can see” is the evidence of the Obama administration’s policy of support for a radical islamists in the middle east.

Conspiracies aren’t all that uncommon, even in the West. We get price-fixing cartels, such as those involving LIBOR, that involved hundreds of individuals over many years. The American Mafia is an example of a criminal conspiracy that has lasted 100 years, with the burial place of many of the victims not even known to this day. In a place like the Middle East, where truth is subjective and dependent on whose ox is gored, and deviations from orthodoxy are punished via assassinations of entire families, conspiracies are the norm. But Jamelle Bouie lacks the background to know this, the intelligence to know what to look for and the diligence to actually do the leg work. It is nice to know that affirmative action is alive and well at the Daily Beast.

Really? With mounds of info out there stating that either a rogue general or rebels themselves unleashed the CW? If Assad is "responsible" for those attacks, then is Obama not responsible for atrocities committed by the al-Qaeda elements his administration has armed and supported?

I observed the headline change. I debated which was proper.

Moderator: Given the edit, can you please remove the following as well:

"This was linked from Yahoo's front page as titled. DB headline:

Enough Already: Syria Wasn’t a False-Flag Operation"

With your edit, those sentences don't make sense now.

Thanks for posting his (Jamelle Bouie) pic. I deduced that from his name and debated inserting that into the post.

And Moderator: I was too quick on the click; thanks in advance for the edits!

My compliments on a well-written piece.

However the author jumps to rather quick conclusions, blaming the regime, IMO.

I still have not seen proof this was a result of the regime.

Seems like a pretty simple thing to prove.

Just saying.

Well, we all know this administration doesn’t manufacture evidence, or spin it to fit its leftist agenda./s Given this administration’s comfort level with lies, why should we believe its facts about which Syrians are poisoning which Syrians? Given the outcomes in Libya and Egypt, why should we trust rebel Muslims to behave better than the strongmen they are replacing? It wasn’t long ago that the media and dependable sources were telling us that the rebels had taken over some chemical weapons supplies. Are they going to surrender their WMDs when Assad does?

We should stay out of it.

Two Former Hostages Go Against the Narrative: A Belgian writer named Pierre Piccinin and an Italian journalist named Domenico Quirico were captured and held hostage several months ago by the Syrian rebels. When they were finally released yesterday, they had devastating news to reveal: based on conversations among the rebels that they overheard, the sarin attack in Ghouta had not been ordered by the Syrian government, but was launched by the rebels themselves.

The author forgets that before George W. Bush was president there were people saying Saddam had chemical weapons. You can find many, many prominent Democrats saying Saddam had chemical weapons. Operation Desert Fox was carried out by Bill Clinton, allegedly over chemical weapons in Iraq. Democrats created the Iraqi Liberation Act during Clinton’s administration. Once the US defeated Saddam and no chemical weapons were found, the Democratic National Committee decided to invent the story that they were duped by a dope (i.e., Bush). That’s become the common wisdom, but it’s not the truth.

Actually IIRC both president Chirac and Joe Wilson (husband of V Plame) among others argued on the eve of the invasion that the reason not to go ahead was the risk of very large number of casualties due to WMD warfare. Go figure....
