[GA]State workers, retirees object to single plan,higher-out-of pocket costs

ATLANTA | Private-sector employees affected by Obamacare won’t be the only ones seeing changes in their health insurance on Jan. 1.

The half-million state workers, retirees, teachers and school workers will also see their coverage revised when 2014 begins.

State officials boast that premiums are being held in place, but some critics complain that they’ll still be paying more out of their pockets because of limits on coverage.

Rep. Ben Harbin, R-Evans, said he’s gotten complaint calls already from teachers and state workers about the lack of choice.

“People are going to have to change doctors, possibly hospitals, because people don’t have a choice, and it’s a decision made by some bureaucrat in Atlanta instead of families around the kitchen table,” he said.

The number of administrators is less of a concern to the Georgia State Retirees Association than the reduced coverage, according to its treasurer, B.J. Bennett.

“I take real issue with the statement that the premiums are not going to go up for employees,” she said.

Comparing the current plans to next year’s alterations to reflect federal health-reform requirements is complicated, Bennett admits. But her analysis shows that since 2011, the maximum out-of-pocket expense for deductibles and co-insurance has doubled in some cases. And what employees and retirees pay for prescription medicines no longer count toward their maximum.

Well, Nancy said that the bill would have to pass so we can know what is in it.
What was it Dean Whermer said? Oh yes, “Knowledge is GOOD.”
Well, now we know. Happy now?

But . . . but liberals have been telling us for four years now that monopolistic pricing translates to more choices and lower prices.

Idiots. Frankly, I am glad to see state workers pay more out of pocket for their coverage. But for the rest of this, anyone with a functioning brain saw this coming back in 2010. Decisions made by some bureaucrat in Atlanta/Washington instead of families around the kitchen table? As Sarah Palin said three years ago, "You betcha!"

Dollars to doughnuts that they voted for Obama. Now that they are getting what they voted for they are crying. As far as I am concerned, they can find another shoulder to cry on.

This is how it started in Massachusetts. Personally, the cost of my monthly premium is somewhat stable, but it covers almost none of the routine items (doctor visits, most prescriptions; forget about dental or vision). The policies really only come into play if you are hospitalized or have to undergo a battery of tests. Of course, you have to burn through your ever-increasing deductible first.

I have catastrophic coverage. Mind-blowingly overpriced catastrophic coverage (’cause someone’s got to pay for the gargantuan percentage of Massachusetts residents who get subsidized policies or are on welfare), but that is what it is. I have no problem with the concept of catastrophic coverage, but in a sane world it would cost much less and not be part of a grand socialist scheme. This is what Obamacare will do to all Americans if it isn’t stopped.

“More Obamacare discontent”

But is it Obamacare discontent or are the employees simply mad at their employers?

I am not sure that people are seeing the ‘cause’ (Obamacare) and its ‘effect’ (higher premiums, fewer working hours, etc.

Nor do I see the Republicans talking about the ‘effect’ of Obamacare.

How many of these lib whiners would get off their fat butts to join a Tea Party Rally protest in their area?

Probably none....they consider conservatives their enemies when their worst enemies are themselves.
