Yup. Same here. I used to be annoyed by visits from such “crews” myself. Haven’t been bothered by them since I started responding to strangers on my front porch, while wearing a magnum revolver on my hip.

"up here in the mountains"
Back in the 60s I was a door to door bible salesman working in eastern Tenn.
The biggest fear was walking up on a home that was operating a still.
To: kevcol
Yep, unscrupulous peddlers. Nothing but a bunch of lying thieves. I had the misfortune of falling in with a group of these scam artists after being lied to, and saw how they operated from the inside for a day (before making my escape).
All I can say is that I hope this guy gets off lightly since I have no doubt that he was justified in his actions.

Police said a Hawarden, Iowa, man shot at three vacuum cleaner salesmen on Saturday. No one was hurt. No, but two vacuum cleaner salesmen were killed.

No, but two vacuum cleaner salesmen were killed.”
Due to the expected number of mourners, funeral services will be held in the telephone booth on the corner where both salesmen passed on to the Great Commission Check In The Sky.

Interesting. I haven’t seen a door to door peddler since I was a kid in the fifties here in Southern California. I thought they were part of history.
All I’ve seen along door to door lines is groups of Jehovah’s Witness with their Watch Tower paraphernalia, and the Mormon’s on their bicycles.

Did you keep an eye out for the black mold on trees that is often found near stills?
To: kevcol
I’ve got to say, I’ve been tempted a few times.
