Well the city hasn’t been genuinely competitive at all since what, the 40’s? It didn’t stop Guilliani from winning. Turner from taking Weiner’s house seat in that special election. Bloomberg is worse for us than a regular democrat on most issues but he also won without the democrat party. Dinkins was the last regular rat to win in 1989.

Weiner is hated over his sexting scandal, personally I don’t give even half a crap but other people do. If it was enough to drop him from the lead to last place in the rat primary it may have been enough to have held him to 49% in the general if only the news of the second incident had broken after the primary instead of before it.

Spitzer same deal, he led the rat primary polls big until Weiner’s reborn scandal reminded everyone of his. At the very least it would have improved our chances if either man was nominated. The Republican running for Comptroller, John Burnett seems pretty good for the job. Lhota, I don’t know but I’d give him the job over the moonbat De Blasio who actually makes Thompson, a typical part of the Black democrat establishment, look better in comparison.

In terms of actual governance should they have won the general elections, at worst it’s a push. All of these people are scumbags, I don’t see Weiner and Spitzer as any worse than De Blasio or Stringer just because they were caught in sex scandals. For every sexual indiscretion committed by a politician that is uncovered there are probably 50 that are not. De Blasio’s wife was an honest to goodness superlesbian until of all things she was so turned on by his radical politics that she can forgive him for having a penis. Who knows what disgusting things they may do behind closed doors.

With Quinn I feel a little differently because of what a feather in homo movement’s cap it would have been to elect her as Mayor of our largest city. But on a personal level I don’t care that she’s a rag muncher. I don’t care what they do with their genitals. It’s how they all screw over the people that bothers me. Even the nice family man democrats participate in the ongoing gang rape of lady liberty. The lot of them should burn in hell.

Academic question now of course, but interesting to discuss.

The problem with your take on it is that people who sexually exploit others, tend to exploit in other areas of life. It’s nice to know that Spitzer won’t have his hand in the cash register.

If Spitzer and Weiner had been the RAT nominees in the general election, I suppose the GOP would have at least had a shot at winning the office.

That said, this is still NYC we're talking about, so it would be a huge uphill battle of even a squeaky-clean Republican beating a sleazy RAT pol. I'd give us about a 20% chance of beating Spitzer in the general election, and a 40% chance of beating Weiner (assuming the "Weiner is still sexting girls" story has broken AFTER he won the nomination)

Unlike Chicago, NYC occasionally elects a non-Dem to office in the city, but I think most of those cases are isolated incidents. Bloomberg won without the RAT party's support, but he's not even a RINO, and everyone knows it.

I keep hearing media reports about Di Blasio is "more progressive" than Quinn and is the "most progressive" candidate in the race. Seriously, how is that even possible? Can anyone name a single issue where her position is less liberal than his? I think the media is just saying he's "more progressive" because of his tone, not his actual policies. All eight of the RAT candidates are hardcore marxists and would govern identically. Of course, the media is also floating the idea that Dick Cheney's girl is the "more conservative" candidate in Wyoming, so who knows?

Bill Thompson managed to run to the LEFT of that fascist left-winger Bloomberg back in 2009. Impy probably has a valid point that he's the "least bad" marxist RAT by default, but I think it's only because he was the only RAT whose personal life isn't some kind of freak show.

I'm glad Quinn and Spitzer lost, if only because it pisses off Bloomberg and the fawning liberal media, not to mention that LBGTQIWHATEVEROURINITALSARETODAY groups would be have a 24/7 gloat fest about what a wonderful thing it is for America to have an "openly lesbian" mayor of the nation's largest city, and what progress we've made in the 21st century, blah blah blah. I'm really getting sick of their BS. Remember when the media had an orgasm over L.A. electing a hispanic mayor? And he wasn't even the "first hispanic mayor" of the city, just the first one in modern times.

There are really no "winners" in this election, however. Unless you count Dante de Blasio's effort to impersonate the Jackson 5:
