Why is it that things that were done normally 10, 20 even 50 years ago with no problems whatsoever are today done by utter morons?

You know, schools have been waxing floors since forever, and they STILL don’t know how to do it?

A perfect time to learn karate. Show me wax on wax off. Show me sand the floor. Now, if we only had a fence and building to paint.

Waxes typically melt at 140 degrees F or better. Something smells on this story. . .

I read the article. It was a good decision. Amherst MA got that excessive heat yesterday. The floors were waxed over the summer, and the relatively new wax melted. It's not just a good decision for the kids, it's a smart economic decision to not risk messing up those newly treated floors. JMHO

I'd applaud more common sense like this in education.

My guess is they used a product not made for floors. Ex: lemon oil makes wood look beautiful. Spilt a small amount on living room floor and just spread it out !
Both feet slid ... In opposite directions. Can’t imagine how one would navigate an entire hall or room! But that area looked great !

The U.S. Navy has been using non-skid deck waxes in compartments and passageways practically forever (or at least since I enlisted in 1961). Are those products not available to schools?

"Schools closed because the floors are SLIPPERY????????

You whipper-snappers are so spoiled! When I was in school,we were lucky to even HAVE floors!

And we had to WALK to school...ten miles....rain or shine...uphill in both directions......

Ahh...the good old days...the smell of fresh wax in the hallways, slamming locker doors, those peanut butter cookies at lunch (yes, sometimes pizza AND cornbread for lunch), recess...

Probably excessive humidity in buildings at certain times of the day. Obviously a dehumidifier or air conditioning is too much to think of.

Cold floor, tile on concrete, passes low temp to surface and consensate, water out of the air forms on tile.

Nothing has really changed. The school committee in Amherst added three additional “snow days” to the school year because the schools used more of those days than planned and had to stay open past the end of the planned school year to meet the 180 class day minimum. The teachers and administrators did not like that move so they are trying to use those three days up as “slip and slide days”.

I am with you. This decision to close may have saved the school district thousands of dollars in lawsuits/attorneys fees.

All they needed was for one kid to slip, fall and hit his/her head and they would be screwed.
