WASHINGTON (AP) — Wind energy facilities have killed at least 67 golden and bald eagles in the last five years, but the figure could be much higher, according to a new scientific study by government biologists.

I wonder if it would be different if they were Whooping Cranes that got wacked by big blades?

It will happen.

Wind turbines in the U.S. kill over HALF A MILLION birds a year, mostly raptors.

Look at all the major development projects that have been delayed for years or even blocked because of fears they might disrupt the habitat of some obscure critter. If these wind farms had to undergo the same environmental scrutiny that is applied to every other major construction project they never would have been built. This is environmental hypocrisy.

The health hazards posed to people by these windmills have also never been given any serious consideration. I can't wait for the TV ads by those ambulance chasing lawyers to be soliciting people who lived near these wind farms for class action law suits.

In one of the last graphs, the 170 mph figure is mentioned.

And just wait until they mandate wind powered cars.

Typical liberal idiocy-if it feels good do it- it must be good cause it makes me feel so green. Barf. They are expensive to build and maintain, they cause not well understood disorders in people, they chop and kill eagles and other raptors plus 1000s of smaller birds, and they ruin the natural beauty of a landscape. Their energy is not free and without effect; they suck energy from the atmosphere which has unknown short and long term effects on climate. Heaven forbid they may contribute to climate change!

If you think about it terms of odds, a bird has a very good chance of flying through one turning windmill without getting struck. However, the chances of flying all the way through one of the large farms without getting struck would get precariously close to zero.

I hate the things. I think of them as monuments to liberal stupidity.

Just go through west texas august through october.
The wind is usually slow to zero. Those hundreds of huge wind non-generation devices just sitting there collecting heat.
Just think if all the cash put into those tributes to idiocy had been spent on natural gas powered generation plants how cheap our electricity might be.

Just watched a movie last night on netflix called “Cat City”, ok, but the stupid windmills dominated all the landscaping. Even had the sound of the windmills in scenes where there were none. UGH, libtards love windmills.

Well it’s OK because they were killed by “green” energy producers. It’s only evil/bad if they are killed by oil/gas/coal energy producers. So just to be clear wildlife killed or injured by “green” energy producers good, wildlife killed by any other energy producer evil.

They should have to, via federal regulation, make the windmill blades out of recycled and biodegradable styrofoam. It would save the eagles AND provide a new green-energy jobs program.

There are so many monuments to liberal stupidity - Social Security; Obamacare; Dodd-Frank; Sarbanes-Oxley; EPA; Department of Education; 0bama; OSHA; and on and on

They said that they cost 1 million each to build. It will take 5 years until they start turning a profit on them

The standard GE 1.6MW SLE costs about $2.3M installed depending on the size of the entire farm. The erection cranes are about $50K per day so there are economies of scale.

The 5 year pay back depends on location. In high wind areas like West Texas the pay back is much quicker.

The two problems I have with wind turbines are the PTC and the Stimulus spending. 80% of the Stimulus money went to foreign companies (Spain, Germany and China)and distorted the market for 3 years. The PTC should be reduced 10% per years until gone. Enough prime pumping.

Put giant Cuisinarts in the sky, and birds get chopped up?

Knock me over with a feather. There should be plenty on the ground.
