A number of current and former top-ranking law enforcement officials from the tobacco-producing South have blasted a potential menthol cigarette ban as the Food and Drug Administration weighs restrictions on those products, contending that prohibition will spur smuggling, counterfeit cigs and other organized crime.

Government attempts to tax/restrict/prohibit citizen’s vices have been going on since George Washington’s Whisky Rebellion.
And these attempts have not only failed every, single time, they’ve promoted resistance both open and covert.
I’ve been told its possible to make perfectly good menthol cigarettes by mixing a little peppermint oil into your tobacco and rolling your own, that way you can even adjust the flavor for as little or as much as you want.
In NYC during Prohibition the average time to get an alcoholic drink was thirteen seconds. But then, those political morons unleashed a crime wave of historic proportions during that time.
When is somebody going to claim that a menthol cigarette ban is racist?
Are they going to start banning flavored cigars and pipe tobacco too?

I have a satiric vision, fit for the Onion.
Kools buyers forced to go “cold turkey” on their favorite tobacco addiction could bring on a reaction of riots and mayhem.
Then you’d have street dealers selling single ‘sticks’ of Kools, fighting for good street corners with the crack sellers.
I guess northerners don’t smoke menthols?
