California’s minimum wage would rise to $10 an hour within three years under a bill passed Thursday by the state Legislature, making it one of the highest rates in the nation.

Washington state currently has the top minimum wage at $9.19 an hour, an amount that is pegged to rise with inflation. Some cities, including San Francisco, have slightly higher minimum wages.

The state Senate approved AB10 on a 26-11 vote and the Assembly followed hours later on a 51-25 vote, both largely along party lines. Gov. Jerry Brown indicated earlier this week that he would sign the bill, calling it an overdue piece of legislation that would help working-class families.

The bill would gradually raise California’s minimum wage from the current $8 an hour to $10 by 2016. …

Because most Californians are stupid.

Thinking persons should be leaving as fast as they can, before a confiscatory exit tax is enacted.

The exodus of businesses will only speed up. By the time they’re done there won’t be any jobs left to pay minimum wage. Lots of employed illegal aliens and lots of unemployed California citizens.

If farmers and construction companies were forced to pay the same minimum wage to their immigrant labor force, this would get fixed. They won’t, so the underground labor market will grow.

Yeah, but $10 hr. in California is still like $3 hr. in Texas in purchasing power.

Union wages are fixed at an amount above the minimum wage so it looks like the union folks are in for a $2.50 raise they don’t have to negotiate for.

The union thugs here in WA get a cost of living raise given to them each year after a state initiative pegged the M W to inflation.

Cheap pandering. You can’t raise a family of four on $9 an hour. If leftists cared more about people than having an issue, they’d raise the minimum wage to around $100,000 per year. California is an expensive state. Think about how many jobs would be created if every family was earning a comfortable income.

California just passed a ridiculous gun control bill that bans detachable magazines and bullet button rifles, and any rifle with a single feature.

Only for housing. Utility bills are cheaper because of the climate requiring less heat and cooling. The Veggies are grown here, so they are cheaper because less cost for shipping. Gasoline is higher, but not by much ( about 30c a gal in some places ) The exception being in San Francisco and along the coast. Rent in the other areas are comparable to rates all over the country. The big issue is going to be that most employees getting the 10 bucks are only able to work 20 hr weeks. Some get second jobs to get to 40, but there are a lot of unemployed here so getting two jobs isn’t ease. You do find many groups of people sharing housing to reduce their cost of living with the low hours they are getting.

Also clothing, appliances, cars, etc are comparable to other states as well. And we don’t tax food or medicine. Currently I am visiting Georgia and they tax everything and their food costs are more, and with the humidity, my Dad is paying over 300 per month for utilities in the summer, compared to my Sacramento monthly average of around 75.

Well said Sgt_Schultze! How can you raise a family on $9.00 per hour. And you have to do it with no more than 29 hours per job/ per week. Might as well raise the minimum to $100 per hour, that would fix it. LOL, LOL,

sarcasm off

The Japanese already have fully automated burger making robots an machinery (due to their anti-immigration-of-any-kind and population implosion issues.). As an interesting aside, their food poisoning rates have dropped as well.

The tech already exists, it works and it’s on the market.
