Are you nuts, Mr. Putin? The United States is exceptional
foxnews.com ^ | September 12, 2013 | Julie Roginsky

President Putin, the United States is exceptional among the world’s nations.

This is not the usual jingoism you may hear from the citizen of any nation – the type of jingoism, incidentally, in which Russia excels.

Instead, Mr. President, take it from someone whose family fled your country over 30 years ago because of religious and ethnic persecution.

My parents and I arrived in the United States with $90 in our pockets, speaking not a word of English and stripped of any nation’s citizenship. And yet we came here because the United States is exceptional in the opportunities it has provided to generations of those who arrived at its ports with nothing but the clothes on their backs and the drive to succeed as Americans.

We came here because life in the Soviet Union, which you served so faithfully as a KGB colonel, was incompatible with basic human dignity.

We came here because generations of our family had been killed, abused and disenfranchised simply because of our religious identity.

To us, what was exceptional was that a world power would provide a new life for us without asking about our ethnicity, whether we were members of the right political party or whether we associated with those who spoke out against the government.

That the United States asked us none of these things is what makes it exceptional – and what made the former Soviet Union, which you served so proudly, unexceptional in its generations-long oppressive nature.

There is not, coincidentally, a mass movement of any oppressed ethnic or religious minority to flee the United States, to Russia or anywhere else.

Putin’s comments are perfectly predictable from one who was brought up in the dialectic.

Obama is a lightweight, treasonous, idiotic excuse for a TOTUS, but...

What in the HECK are people thinking when they cheer on Assad, Putin, Jinping, and Khanemini?

Its like replacing a turd in your backyard with a whole pile of toxic goo.

Putin’s op-ed article was warning US to be cautious and not to attack Syria. It’s good advice. Putin gave us a more pro-American message, in the real sense, than we’re getting from Obama, McCain - or this columnist. American doesn’t need to get into yet another middle east war. We’ve got big problems at home, and we have no business going to war on behalf of Syrian terrorists. Thanks Mr. Putin for reminding us.

Putin WAY overplayed his hand. Given that both he and Obama are narcissistic monsters, this is no surprise.

Given that both he and Obama are in command of two of the three most powerful nations on the planet, this is terrifying.

It's pro-America to say that America is not exceptional and should bow to the United Nations?

No it's anti-American garbage from a stupid hateful thug and murderer.

Putin is saying that the values that made America great are no better than the psychopathic evil genocide carried out by the EVIL EMPIRE Putin loyally served.

Putey ought to quit while he's ahead.

He's got the same unquenchable instincts as have all ego-driven political hacks worldwide.....they just can't shut up when they should.

by which, I mean Marxist theory:

Thesis: common ownership + poverty (primitive communism, which leads to

Antithesis: private ownership + wealth (slavery, feudalism, and capitalism), which ultimately produces

Synthesis: common ownership + wealth (final communism)

True Marxists do not see the fall of the USSR as the end of anything but a step toward the ultimate destiny of absolute communism. If Russia has to take a little detour through capitalism along the way, no big deal. But Marxists and admirers of The Great Stalin like Putin certainly do not recognize capitalism, or it’s greatest practitioner (USA) as anything superior.

I wanted to quote Bush’s statement that is ridiculed so often by the MSM, because he doesn’t say Putin is a nice guy or anything, what he said was he is deeply committed to his country. And he certainly is.

“I looked the man in the eye. I found him to be very straight forward and trustworthy and we had a very good dialogue. I was able to get a sense of his soul. He’s a man deeply committed to his country and the best interests of his country and I appreciate very much the frank dialogue and that’s the beginning of a very constructive relationship,”

America WAS exceptional when we were allowed to be so. That's what made us exceptional; we were allowed to profit and benefit from our own works when people in other countries were not.

That is becoming less and less the case as Obama moves us closer and closer to socialism, where achievement is punished and laziness is rewarded.

As a people, we Americans are exceptional because we know the power of self-determination where people of other countries do not. We were raised on it, many of us know nothing else.

As we become more "Obamanized" we will become less exceptional.

When Obama touts "American Exceptionalism" in a speech, it is a rhetorical device to gain favor. He doesn't believe it. He's never lived it. He doesn't exemplify it.

What he said is all men are created equal by God which is the same thing basically that the Declaration of Independence of the United States says, "that all men are created equal".

People don't like it when someone says Americans aren't better than people from other countries but are humans just like them.

Is that you, John McCain? Do you post at Freerepublic when you’re not doing sleepovers with terrorists in Syria?

Yes, I believe Putin’s right — and being pro-American — by warning against the Kerry/McCain/Obama plan to go to war in Syria. Their plan is stupid, getting us into a third middle east war in 12 years. And we’d be abandoning the war on terror. Because we’d be supporting Al Quada terrorists in Syria who butcher Christians. Yes, it’s pro-America to warn us against a policy that would harm America and would undermine American values by supporting terrorists.

Rhetoric about “exceptionism” isn’t worth a cup of coffee, if it leads to stupid policies that get us involved in endless, useless, wars.

BS He’s saying — and I quote from his article — God made every human equal. But that’s not the point of his column. He wrote it to warn against the US going to war in Syria. Excellent, pro-American advice.

The United States was considered "exceptional" because it was created at a time when other nations were either ruled via conquest or through hereditary monarchy and inter-marriage between nation-states.

The United States was "exceptional" because it was created by a social compact amongst the people to live within the guidelines of a constitution. Power was transferred via non-violent means, and the people adhered to that social contract.

People today don't remember (or were never taught) why the phrase "American Exceptionalism" came to be.

Why Syria matters to oil markets

As a U.S. military strike against Syria grows increasingly likely, oil prices have slowly crept higher.

Russia is also heavily involved, and is thought to have advisers on the ground in Syria. While no one is expecting the violence to spread to Russia itself, the country has been known to use its massive energy resources (10.4 million barrels of oil production per day in 2012) as a geopolitical weapon, cutting off exports to adversaries in the past.

Saudi Arabia’s National Security Relies on a New Deal with the US

According to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), Saudi oil exports in 2012 amounted to 7.5 million barrels per day (bbl/d) based on 9.8 million bbl/d of crude oil production. Total proven oil reserves of about 265 billion barrels also means that Saudi Arabia will continue to be a major oil producer for years to come. Oil exports are, therefore, the lynchpin of the kingdom’s economic security and account for 80% of government expenditures. Yet the specter of energy insecurity continues to loom large over Saudi Arabia.

...............

Russia exported significantly more oil than Saudi Arabia in 2012. Oil prices are not high enough as far as the oil exporting countries are concerned. War in the middle east will drive those prices back up. Russia will make hundreds of millions of dollars off the increased revenue. Saudi Arabia will make hundreds of millions of dollars off the increased revenues. America will add hundreds of millions of dollars to its national debt off the cost of war and the increased cost of energy. Follow the money. Do the math. Putin wants war but he doesn't want to look like he wants war. Consider that as he attempts to manipulate Americans. Obama is either being played or paid. That's how I see it.

I don't care what Putin says or does. I don't care what Assad says or does. Anyway you look at it, this was does not serve America's best interests.

Respectfully dal ... I disagree. I have spoken with our nation's young and have a few of our nation's young in the form of children and grandchildren. They are our best and our brightest despite the education system. We are going to be okay and so will they despite this world and the politicians. We simply have to hold the line ... for the moment. Our young (imho) will hold the line exceptionally when they get to the plate.
