As Syria Talks With Russia, Obama’s ‘Red Line’ Starts To Fade [An Embarrassing Presidency]

As Syria Talks With Russia, Obama’s ‘Red Line’ Starts To Fade U.S. military option a sticking point

By Dave Boyer September 12, 2013

President Obama’s “red line” vow of action against Syria turned a lighter shade of pink Thursday, with Secretary of State John F. Kerry saying a U.S. military strike “might” be necessary if talks led by Russia fail to compel Syria to turn over its chemical weapons.

As negotiators met in Switzerland on the unfolding crisis, Mr. Kerry appeared to concede the diplomatic reins to the Russians, who are insisting that the U.S. withdraw its threat of missile strikes before the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad agrees to give up its chemical weapons stockpile.

His comment offered less certainty than President Obama had of a missile strike. Mr. Obama said Tuesday that he was keeping U.S. forces in the region “in a position to respond if diplomacy fails.” Asked about Mr. Kerry’s remark, the White House said the secretary of state had not misspoken.

“I think that that allows for, you know, a variety of things that could happen in the next days and weeks with regard to this matter,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney, adding that “a military option is important to maintain.”

I dislike Obama as much as the next guy, but this is ridiculous. Ignoring atrocities in countries like Syria was something we used to routinely do. We certainly ignored Saddam’s gassing of the Kurds at Halabja. We also turned a blind eye to Saddam’s chemical weapon attacks on the Iranians during the Iran-Iraq War. Ultimately, countries act not based how they feel about something, but on a balance between interests and costs. Only when interests and costs are firmly on the side of intervention, does morality come into play, as a rallying point for domestic and international public opinion. In the case of Syria, the GOP, and elements of the Sunni-loving Dems, have put morality ahead of national interest and cost, and been slapped down. It wasn’t just Obama who was set back, but the GOP’s unpaid globocop (aka Don Quixote) and the Dem’s Sunni appeasement contingent as well. The public wanted no part of their nonsense, and the pols finally threw in the towel.

Kerry actually said “Let me make one thing absolutely clear, we MIGHT use military force.” It’s like he spits a few words out then, rather than stopping and rethinking what he was about to say, he just keeps his lips moving hoping that if anything comes out that doesn’t sound right, he can change it during the next phrase. Amateurs.

Everybody seems to be harping on the embarrassment factor for Obama and the US but that is not the main issue.
The main issue is the loss of US power in the Middle East, the befuddling of the few allies we have left and Iran.

Now that the US has lost power, prestige, influence and worst of all credibility and face, what comes next? The Russians are pouring it on, adding a new naval vessel near Syria everyday and Obama is pulling our forces out of the region.

This is not just bad, it is very dangerous because now, nobody can depend on Obama, especially Israel.

After being told to shut up, sit down and be patient since 2008, Israel now seriously questions what Obama promised months ago when he said, “Israel, I've got your back”.

Nobody in Israel (except President Shimon Peres) believes this anymore. This means that Israel will, indeed, have to take on mammoth Iran...alone. Bad timing, bad precedent, bad repercussions.

Forget the red lines. The only colors seen from this direction are

obomba’s black skin

obomba’a red, embarrassed face

the yellow stripe down obomba’s back

obomba’s green puke as he throw’s up seeing his entire presidency/legacy disintegrate bit by bit.

“An Embarrassing Presidency”........

What an understatement! There is no question that odumbo will go down in history as being the worst possible U.S. president that will ever be. I’m still waiting for the day he “goes down”.

Hopefully we will survive as a nation the next three years so that history can be written about “An Embarrassing Presidency”.
