My great aunt is almost 104 & she lives on her own. No walker, no meds, lol, and she eats more than me.

Wiki page on oldest people:

Interesting how many of them are Americans. I mean we totally dominate the field.

And women are a little better at being really old than men.

Then there was Jeanne Calment, who checked out on 4 August 1997, at the age of 122 years and 164 days.

But the punchline was, she took out a reverse mortgage when she was 90.

No meds? Wow, that is a true rarity these days.

She’s very fit. She walks a mile most every day & even uses the internet, lol. She’s starting to lose her hearing in one ear & just got fitted for a hearing aid this year. Otherwise she’s fine.

That is great. Does she do anything special in terms of her diet? What does she attribute her longevity to, or is it just in the genes?

Well....it’s difficult to know the reason. She eats everything. Sweets. Meat, you name it. Most all of her sisters & brothers lived into their 90s. I figure it’s genes. Her last living sister died early this year & she was 94.

The one’s I knew did not smoke. There were 12 brothers & sisters total, and I did not know them all.

I think the smoking matters. On the other hand, my grandmother is entering her nineties and is in pretty good shape, and she smoked like a chimney into her fifties, at which point she nominally quit, only sneaking a cigarette every now and then. Anyway, hats off to your great aunt and may she have many more years with us.
