The Fourth Estate is in reality a Fifth Estate of Fifth columnists. The First Estate was the clergy, the second estate was the nobility, and the third estate was the people. In a polity which includes no established church and no nobility, what does Fourth Estate even mean? In reality wire service journalism functions as a first estate - as self-interested "received doctrine" masquerading as rationality. It is not rationality, it is emotion, flattery, and sophistry dominating rationality.

The big test in Colorado will be in 2014 when we see if we can take back both the legislature and governorship. If we can do that, we should be able to roll back the gun control bills that were passed earlier this year. The FIRST step should be Voter ID, and a deep cutback in "vote by mail", there the proposed mail-in voter must show ID either at the local post office or have somebody come over to their home to verify ID (if too disabled to get to the post office). There must be a person-by-person audit of the voter rolls to eliminate fraud.

Good news. The CO recall groups are joining forces to repeal the gun control laws. No chance of that happening before the 2015 legislative session, given Democratic control of both houses and the governorship...but perhaps this effort will help Republicans take control.

Curiously, the morning he announced his candidacy on the radio, the program host (Peter Boyles) was silenced within moments and fired soon thereafter. That was the same day Boyles was involved in a physical altercation with his producer. I think it's fair to say he wasn't fired because he had Tancredo on!

That’s true, but we can assume that Boyles would have had Tancredo on the air many times in the months since then, giving Tancredo a great deal of free exposure. And whatever happened that morning, the producer did not complain (it started as a report by 9News personnel who were in the studio). Firing Boyles had the effect of denying Tancredo a lot of publicity.

Boyles was fired from KHOW in mid-May, and was back on the air on KNUS in early July...and the election is stil over a year away, so I don't think it had that much of an impact.
