In 2012, residents of at least five Michigan cities had 50-to-1 odds or better of citizens becoming victims of violent crime, according to data released this week.

The Saginaw News compiled a map of data released by the Federal Bureau of Investigations that shows the rate of violent crime in 2012 across reporting police agencies.

Flint, Saginaw and Detroit were listed among the highest per capita violent crime rates in the country.

Using FBI crime data and population estimates, in 2012, citizens had varying odds of becoming crime victims.

Here's a look:

Flint: 1 in 37 chance of being a victim of violence
Saginaw: 1 in 42 chance of being a victim of violence
Detroit: 1 in 47 chance of being a victim of violence

Click on the map markers in each reporting Michigan city and town to view information about violent crime in each location. Markers are color coded according to the map legend.

I’m curious to know the rate between this and Syria would be.

I’m not sure how accurate this map is. I drilled down to Martin Luther King Blvd and there were no red dots.

“There are still 37 people left in Flint?”

That was when they first published the map, so now there maybe a few less, depending on how much of the violence leads to death.../s

I had a good chuckle over your post. Living just across the St Mary's River from Sault Ste Michigan I know the UP. Lots of chances where the risk of a calamity is only one in the total population. I notice the Mackinac City which my spouse makes me travel down to for the fall "clearing the shelves" sales. Though in the lower part of Michigan it seems that nothing bad happens there. This includes the free spending tourists.

Anyway, no disagreement from me if our friends of the Yooper variety tell me it is "God's Country".

Try walking while White through any urban neighborhood after dark and your chances of getting mugged are almost 100%.

Cities could greatly reduce violent crime by baiting the vermin with competent soldiers acting s potential victims. After you catch the perp (assuming you didn’t have to kill them), lock them away for life with hard labor. Anyone willing to harm others for gain is not redeemable.

Walking while White... great term. Of course the liberals in the MSM won't be picking up that one ... Anyone know if the killer yesterday killed any black people? Or was in only whites?

I saw one non-white person in this victim list CNN put up...
http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/17/us/dc-navy-yard-victims/index.html

I can’t imagine there is a 13/1 White/Black ratio wandering the halls of that building in DC. I don’t expect the obama news to point it out either.

If a white man killed 11 blacks on a DC rampage and one “other’ the press wouldn’t notice either... /s

Jeesh, I’ve been around Saginaw all the time, including the east side. It’s worse than Detroit. Just go in the morning before the thugs get out of bed.

Haven’t been in Saginaw in awhile. Used to cut through town on M13 to I69 when 75 was backed up and I lived in Lansing. Rough, but I’ve seen worse ib Flint and Detroit. I stayed off of Holland Ave.
