Tennessee Democrat Rep. Steve Cohen blamed opposition to gun control on voters affinities for guns and the Bible on Wednesday in an MSNBC appearance.
I got the vitriol from on the Twitter from all these people who opposed that cartoon, said Cohen, who tweeted a cartoon that appeared to blame the National Rifle Association for the Navy Yard shooting spree on Tuesday. They are hardcore Republicans. This I think means more to them than I think their guns are right there next to their Bibles. Im not sure which they find more important to them.
Cohens remarks bear a strong resemblance to comments made by President Barack Obama in 2008 at a California fundraiser, where he explained that economic downturns pushed bitter Pennsylvania voters to cling to guns or religion a point co-host David Corn quickly made.
Corn also asked if opposition to disarming private citizens was a cultural matter that cant really be broken by simple politics.
Corns question prompted Cohen to blame guns and the Bible for primary challenges to moderate establishment Republicans.
Its been that way for a while, and it certainly is in the Republican caucus, Cohen said. These people are afraid to get primaried, which they would. And you see Lamar Alexander, whos a reasonable Republican, now has a right-wing opponent in his primary in my state. Mitch McConnell has one in Kentucky. Rich Luger, one of the stars of the Senate, was defeated by a right-winger, so its around, and its difficult. And it is guns, and the Bible.
Cohen also said of gun-rights advocates: I think their guns are next there to their bibles. I'm not sure which they find more important to them. After his Murderers Row comment, Cohen insisted that Republicans like their guns more than God: I think guns trump bibles on that side of the aisle.
And I mock the Democrat Party’s affinity for policies that are designed and implemented to destroy society and ensure Democrat rule.
And sucking Obama’s c0ck means more to you than the country and constitutional rights rep Cohen....
Blow it out of your @$$
The public at large certainly seem to pay more attention to a gun than a bible.
Another communist heard from...
They come in all shapes and sizes these days.
Mr. Congressman: You can stick it up yours. Don’t like it, leave.
No, They are hard-core, patriotic Americans.
They cling to the quaint idea that loyalty to our country comes before fealty to a political party or a socialist fantasy.
So this buttcheese will be waiting for a cop and praying they get there before the democrat voter kicks his door down and ends his life.
“It’s the damned fault of the will of the people in a representative Republic. If we could just have a king or an emperor we wouldn’t have to put up with these little people.”
Gonna teach the youth group Revelation 14 tonight, then come home and resize some 5.56 ...
He must be from the part of Tennessee where inbreeding is still popular.
That’s OK, I mock liberals for their affinity for sucking c***. I think if a handgun fit in a bung hole comfortably, they’d be more inclined to defend their use.
Steve Cohen has a 0.67 lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union.
I’d like to ask Mr. COHEN a question. Would you want the people (IDF) of Israel to give up the guns they keep at HOME?
The dead don’t bother you, rather it is their ‘right’ to defend themselves when the fan gets hit.
Before you accuse me of “ “, I, too spent much of the last 2 weeks in the synagogue.
Some say “Never Again”, while Mr. Cohen says, “Well, maybe just once more.”
Not smart to bash one’s own state ...
And we mock their affinities for Islam and underage boys.
Rats love guns, too. They just love them in the hands of government thugs.
They are hardcore Republicans. This I think means more to them than I think their guns are right there next to their Bibles. Im not sure which they find more important to them.
You know, he thinks he is insulting us, but I take this as high praise. We are correctly prioritizing two of the most important things in life (the Bible does come in first though). Thanks for noticing, lib!
This guy must be in a really safe gerrymandered, vote frauding, obama loving, dimocrat district to say something like that in Tennessee. But maybe Tennessee isn’t the Tennessee i imagine it to be.
Tennessee Democrat Rep. Steve Cohen...RESIGN you POS anti-American totalitarian wannabee...and PAY UP...
Wheres that wanted poster for socialist robbery?
Socialism Is Legal Plunder - Bastiat
I guess we know where this douche bag stands on the 1st and 2nd amendments.
No, he's from the part of Tennessee where Communists and whitey-bashing are still popular.
He has a ton of "service"/"good guy" awards, one of them from the Human [homosexual] Rights <ptui!> Campaign. He's also bigtime ACLU/NAACP buddy.
Remember that Tennessee produced two Fords and two Gores, all pinker than a rhesus monkey's ass.
He’s a white liberal from a Memphis district that is 60% black. Which makes me seriously wonder how much he has to debase himself to get elected.
Memphis; that tell you anything?
1 Woe to those who make unjust laws, to those who issue oppressive decrees,
2 to deprive the poor of their rights and withhold justice from the oppressed of my people, making widows their prey and robbing the fatherless.
3 What will you do on the day of reckoning, when disaster comes from afar? To whom will you run for help?
Where will you leave your riches? 4 Nothing will remain but to cringe among the captives or fall among the slain.
They have ALWAYS been in the tank for Obozo. No matter how ridiculous the argument was.
I don't know which scenario I'd like better:
1. Read that the SOB was shot dead in his home unable to defend himself due to his aversion to guns
2. Have him shoot an intruder and thus expose himself as a hypocrite.
Either way we would win!
Steve, you are an idiot
the dude that did it was an obamaton
Yup. That's me. Proud of it, too. :)
As opposed to the congressman's affinity for gay boys and the devil. :)
I don’t know how you got away with it, but you expressed my feelings very well.
(btw, good tagline ! d:^)
He represents that toilet bowl Memphis...no wonder.
Yes, Rep. Stevens - I do have an affinity for my Bible, it helps me know my God better. Teaches me about my salvation through Jesus. It inspires me and helps guide me.
Explain to me the problem Mr. Stevens. Try to.
Farnsbaby, our sentiments exactly.
Thanks. The tagline goes with the alter ego. Google my screen name and check out the Wikipedia explanation. If you are a Larry Niven fan you already understand. Speaker did finally earn the name Chmee, but I am sentimental.
“I keep my gun next to my bible
and a copy of the Constitution.”
We wish that Tennessee Democrat Rep. Steve Cohen would explain his affinity to the killing of 60 million defenseless babies, and his affinity to death panels, and same sex marriage. Does Steve Cohen believe that men and women are interchangeable? Does Steve Cohen believe that our military should be armed? If yes, why are our domestic bases gun free zones? (technically ammunition free zones)?
Why is Steve Cohen obsessed with taking guns away from law abiding, tax paying citizens? Can Steve Cohen connect the dots between reduced crime rates and guns? High crime rates correlate with strict gun control laws such as being exhibited in Chicago and Washington, DC.
Government and Dictators have killed millions more humans than our armed citizenry. The results of the 2008 election shows the need of stronger background checks for our elected officials.
Guns and bibles are co-equal in importance. You can't fight a dictator without a gun and without the Bible, you won't have the resolve to do it.
This is why dictators get rid of guns and religion first.
great minds my friend, great minds....
Cohen probably goes home and dresses in a knock off of Michelle’s inaugural dress and dances with his Obama love doll.
Keep up the fire, friend.
Got to preach to the choir, been kicked off the liberal sites
That's good! I'm going to have to remember that one.
All I have to offer in trade right now is: "crazier than a rat in a tin sh!thouse during a hail storm", which you are welcome to provided you do not already have it.
Actually, I can’t claim the rhesus monkeys .... that’s an oldie from the 50’s or even the 40’s, belonged to the Great Generation.
