Tennessee Democrat Rep. Steve Cohen blamed opposition to gun control on voters affinities for guns and the Bible on Wednesday in an MSNBC appearance.
I got the vitriol from on the Twitter from all these people who opposed that cartoon, said Cohen, who tweeted a cartoon that appeared to blame the National Rifle Association for the Navy Yard shooting spree on Tuesday. They are hardcore Republicans. This I think means more to them than I think their guns are right there next to their Bibles. Im not sure which they find more important to them.
Cohens remarks bear a strong resemblance to comments made by President Barack Obama in 2008 at a California fundraiser, where he explained that economic downturns pushed bitter Pennsylvania voters to cling to guns or religion a point co-host David Corn quickly made.
Corn also asked if opposition to disarming private citizens was a cultural matter that cant really be broken by simple politics.
Corns question prompted Cohen to blame guns and the Bible for primary challenges to moderate establishment Republicans.
Its been that way for a while, and it certainly is in the Republican caucus, Cohen said. These people are afraid to get primaried, which they would. And you see Lamar Alexander, whos a reasonable Republican, now has a right-wing opponent in his primary in my state. Mitch McConnell has one in Kentucky. Rich Luger, one of the stars of the Senate, was defeated by a right-winger, so its around, and its difficult. And it is guns, and the Bible.
Cohen also said of gun-rights advocates: I think their guns are next there to their bibles. I'm not sure which they find more important to them. After his Murderers Row comment, Cohen insisted that Republicans like their guns more than God: I think guns trump bibles on that side of the aisle.
And I mock the Democrat Party’s affinity for policies that are designed and implemented to destroy society and ensure Democrat rule.
And sucking Obama’s c0ck means more to you than the country and constitutional rights rep Cohen....
Blow it out of your @$$
The public at large certainly seem to pay more attention to a gun than a bible.
Another communist heard from...
They come in all shapes and sizes these days.
Mr. Congressman: You can stick it up yours. Don’t like it, leave.
No, They are hard-core, patriotic Americans.
They cling to the quaint idea that loyalty to our country comes before fealty to a political party or a socialist fantasy.
So this buttcheese will be waiting for a cop and praying they get there before the democrat voter kicks his door down and ends his life.
“It’s the damned fault of the will of the people in a representative Republic. If we could just have a king or an emperor we wouldn’t have to put up with these little people.”
Gonna teach the youth group Revelation 14 tonight, then come home and resize some 5.56 ...
He must be from the part of Tennessee where inbreeding is still popular.
That’s OK, I mock liberals for their affinity for sucking c***. I think if a handgun fit in a bung hole comfortably, they’d be more inclined to defend their use.
Steve Cohen has a 0.67 lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union.
I’d like to ask Mr. COHEN a question. Would you want the people (IDF) of Israel to give up the guns they keep at HOME?
The dead don’t bother you, rather it is their ‘right’ to defend themselves when the fan gets hit.
Before you accuse me of “ “, I, too spent much of the last 2 weeks in the synagogue.
Some say “Never Again”, while Mr. Cohen says, “Well, maybe just once more.”
Not smart to bash one’s own state ...
And we mock their affinities for Islam and underage boys.
Rats love guns, too. They just love them in the hands of government thugs.
They are hardcore Republicans. This I think means more to them than I think their guns are right there next to their Bibles. Im not sure which they find more important to them.
You know, he thinks he is insulting us, but I take this as high praise. We are correctly prioritizing two of the most important things in life (the Bible does come in first though). Thanks for noticing, lib!
