US Senators Target Top Russian Banks Over Syria

US lawmakers are calling for a crackdown against leading Russian lenders VTB, Vnesheconombank (VEB) and Gazprombank for allegedly helping Syrian President Bashar Assad circumvent sanctions, accusations the state-owned banks sharply denied Wednesday.

“The Syrians could not conduct this war without Russian financing,” US Sen. Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat from Connecticut, said Tuesday at a policy discussion in Washington, Politico reported.

Blumenthal was one of four senators who sent a letter to US Treasury Secretary Jack Lew last week calling for sanctions against the three banks, accusing the lenders of enabling Assad to finance a war against rebel forces.

The senators cited “numerous reports” as saying that VEB had facilitated Syrian payments for S-300 missile batteries and that VTB holds Assad’s “personal funds.” They also cited the reports as saying that Gazprombank made “payments for crude oil,” though they did not specify the source of the reports.

Wasn't it curious that the first thing the "rebels" in Libya did was set up a central bank, even before they had toppled the government.

The Libyan National Bank is where the elite of the elite and the world's political crooks kept their 'money'. Money in the form of GOLD BARS. Real ones, not the tungsten ones that the Chinese flooded the market with.

Libya, Egypt, Syria. It's about the money. It's always about the money.

Cornyn and Ayotte lent their names to this letter.

And lent themselves to the Saudis.

No, McCain’s one extraordinary ability is that he can land aircraft six feet below flight deck level.

Russia welcomes Islamic finance - September 15, 2013 - It is quite clear why Kazan has been chosen as the hub for Islamic investments. Tatarstan has accumulated considerable experience in international projects and contacts with investors from Muslim countries. Kazan has repeatedly hosted major international events, devoted to Islamic business and finance. Support and widening of investments will be one of the key issues at the upcoming 5th International Economic Summit of Russia and the countries of the OIC, which will be held in the capital of Tatarstan in October of this year. According to the experts, Islamic investors are showing interest in Russia both due to economic and geopolitical factors. Alberto Brugnoni, chairman of the Italian non-profit organization ASSAIF, says: “Muslim investors simply cannot ignore Russia due to its huge size, raw material resources, the size of its Muslim population and its proximity to several strategic Muslim countries in Central Asia.”

I'll let you in on a little secret, it may make you feel better.

From 1919 to 1990 Soviet Russia sent their very best Communists to the USA to assume positions in government, media, and entertainment.

In 1992 the Russian Federation decided it wouldn't take any of 'em back.

So Russia is the country that won't allow Communists to infiltrate and destroy everything.

Feel better?

From my perspective it is beginning to look like the US and Russia need each other. Every now and then one of the two parties ends up being led by a very bad government class. The Soviet Union Russian period for example and the current Oligarchial US period. Seems like to be good neighbors we have to smack each other with a club every now and then.

Good observation, Joe.

I suspect the tactical consideration for this construction is to provide a place for Saudi group oil revenues to be placed in competition with the US-Western European, IMF, Soros group that Russia-China is targeting.

Russia will control the Kazan system rather than the other way around, and there will be a place for Saudi money when the Western Bankster system collapses.

Just as Russia intends to control the petro energy pipelines to Western Europe, they intend to control the banking as well.

...the US and Russia need each other.

For a best result, that is true, and it is why I don't hate Russians.

In fact, I have never hated Russians, just Communists, with a passion.

Unfortunately, Communism is still a powerful force in Russia, and Obama, by supporting and funding Communists and homosexuals in Russia and Russian media, is forcing Putin into more strident Russian Nationalism with an anti American component, to retain control.

Obama is deliberately sowing ill feeling between the American people and the Russian people.
