Goes to show there are really people who possess the sense to not eat crap that turns them into an Orca-and maybe they even have full length mirrors and a sense of how they look-peer pressure works better than nanny edicts, and I don’t think it is “mean”...
I’ll bet if those EBT cards could only be used for fresh produce, meat, rice you have to cook from scratch, etc, not only would more people be healthy and save money on food, but the cards wouldn’t be as attractive because of their limitations, and eventually not many people would “need” them...
And just think how much money people would save by wearing regular sizes instead of being limited to the Oscar de la Tenta racks of the store...
Eligibility for SNAP should also include at least one basic home-ec and cooking class. When I applied for food stamps and suggested that, the case worker laughed at me and wanted to know exactly who would "teach" it. I suggested people like me who knew how to shop and cook and get the most bang for the buck could fulfill the class requirement by teaching it. She realized I was serious and explained why such couldn't be done. Practically verbatim the argument used against drug testing of those receiving various welfare benefits. (she also agreed with me, but couldn't say such a thing)
Actually, that situation is becoming reversed; the super-big sizes are prevalent now. If I go into Kohl's to buy some, say, tees to wear with yoga pants, or a sweater, there will be one small and one medium, but a whole stack of XLs, XXLs, and XXXLs. It's the same at other stores. A salesperson advised me to grab any smaller-sized garments I like when I see them, and bring them back if necessary.....she said the large sizes will dominate as long as people are getting fatter.
