Ken Cuccinelli’s Window of Opportunity
The Federalist ^ | 19 September 2013 | Ben Domenech

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli has for much of the past few months been battling against a media narrative which frames him as some kind of Old Dominion Todd Akin – an extreme social conservative candidate who has split his party, dividing the moderate and conservative wings, and creating wedges vulnerable for exploitation by a centrist, pro-business Democrat. This narrative was sustained through most of August, fueled in part by the dramatically higher ad expenditures of Cuccinelli’s well-funded opponent, lifelong Democratic fundraiser Terry McAuliffe.

Except this narrative has crumbled in recent weeks, at the same time that Cuccinelli has cut McAuliffe’s polling lead in half.

Encouraging developments in the Virginia Governor's race. It's appearing the slow-but-steady retail politics style of Cuccinelli is paying off, as he tightens the most recent Quinnipiac polling to within 3% from 6% last month. The move from libertarian Robert Sarvis to (mostly) Cuccinelli has begun.

As it stands now, Cuccinelli has momentum!

Making Cuccinelli shaking up his campaign and getting rid of some of the GOP dead wood in it is actually helping?

Quite possibly.. as well as voters honing in more on McAuliffe, now the furor from the non-issue about Star Scientific and Gov. McDonnell is dying off. The fact the Governor’s chef pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor theft charge, vs a potentially troublesome trial put that matter to rest.

This is about issues now, and people are starting to see McAuliffe as an issue himself.

As a long long time observer of VA politics, Cuccinelli got his window of opportunity when McAuliffe announced that he was running. McAuliffe is unelectable.

McAuliffe is unelectable.

That's the hope out here... Just saw the results of a Roanoke College poll, showing McAwful leading by 1... 37%-36%.

the non-issue about Star Scientific and Gov. McDonnell

Non-issue? The man is an outright crook. He sold access to his office for hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash and gifts.

Pretending that it wasn't actually a scandal, just because the governor is a Republican, is what got Cuccinelli in trouble in the first place.

Crook? Show me the criminal indictments and subsequent convictions.

Then we’ll talk.

Oh, please. Just wait - the indictment is coming.

And until then, private citizens are still free to say the obvious. OJ is a murderer, and McDonnell is a crook who sold his office.

If he were a (D), would you be giving him such a generous benefit of the doubt? Allowing blatant partisanship to trump reality is why Cuccinelli is in trouble now. And if Virginia elects that scumbag McAuliffe, it’ll be because the GOP in Virginia cared more about protecting its own than its own integrity.

Please.. you’re equating McDonnell’s situation with the OJ case?

When and if an indictment comes down, that’ll be a different story.

An honest question, answered honestly:
Yes. Not in severity, but in this way: private citizens don’t need to wait for a legal verdict, we are free to state the obvious.

And boy, is it obvious: McDonnell is a crook, plain and simple. He sold his office for tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of dollars in cash and gifts.

My turn for a question - if he had a (D) after his name, would you insist on these legal pleasantries?
