Ugh.

I know several relatively recent graduates of this journalism school. I may ask them whether they had this professor in classes and see what I can find out about him.

People usually don't talk this way out of the blue. It's usually part of a persistent pattern.

Normally I am in favor of letting idiots harm themselves by using their free speech rights. If he were a professor at a private college I would strongly defend his right to be stupid. However, he is paid by tax dollars at a tax-supported institution, and I don't see how comments supporting the murder of the children of one’s political opponents can be tolerated in that context.

The NRA is reporting that he has been suspended:

http://www.nraila.org/news-issues/articles/2013/9/university-of-kansas-professor-to-nra-may-your-children-be-next.aspx

“Fortunately, it has recently been reported that the University of Kansas suspended Guth for his depraved comments.

According to a follow-up Campus Reform article, KU’s chancellor, Bernadette Gray-Little, announced the suspension Friday morning.

“In order to prevent disruptions to the learning environment for students, the School of Journalism and the university, I have directed Provost Jeffrey Vitter to place Associate Professor Guth on indefinite administrative leave pending a review of the entire situation.”

The article further notes that the university released an additional statement condemning Guth’s tweet (when initially confronted with the situation, a university spokesperson had simply noted that statements on faculty members’ private social media accounts do not represent the views of the university).

“The contents of Professor Guth’s tweet were repugnant and in no way represent the views or opinions of the University of Kansas. [I]t is truly disgraceful that these views were expressed in such a callous and uncaring way. We expect all members of the university community to engage in civil discourse and not make inflammatory and offensive comment.”

In reaction to Monday's attack at the Navy Yard by a person who, reports suggest, suffered from serious mental illness, some are calling for a renewed focus on early warning signs of aggression and expressions of mental instability. We are relieved that the University of Kansas seems to be addressing those issues as they concern professor Guth.”

Thanks bryan999.
"Hell no, hell no, I do not regret that Tweet," he said. "I don't take it back one bit."

And on Monday the associate journalism professor echoed those sentiments on his personal blog, called Snapping Turtle.

“I don’t wish what happened today on anyone,” he wrote. “But if it does happen again — and it likely will — may it happen to those misguided miscreants who suggest that today’s death toll at the Navy Yard would have been lower if the employees there were allowed to pack heat.”

Guth was censured by the university in October, 2010 for ‘unprofessional, threatening, and abusive behavior towards another faculty.’

Guth also doubled down on the statement when other Twitter users pressed him, suggesting it was was shameful to call for the death of children. “God’s justice takes many forms,” he tweeted in response.

The lowlife thinks he's God? God's not handing out death sentences to NRA members' children. It's Guth who wants that to happen. Delusions of grandeur anyone?

Speaking of God, I'll bet Guth hasn't stepped foot in a Sunday morning Church service in the last year.... maybe not since childhood. Bet he comes from a broken home too... hates his father... What a loser.
