Editorial: Shooters, traffickers and Deonta Howard
Chicago Tribune ^ | 21 sept 2013

By 9 a.m. Friday, bandaged shooting victims began hobbling out of Chicago-area hospitals.

Around the same time, Mayor Rahm Emanuel's communications staffers punched the "send" button on their computers, firing off statements about an overnight shooting rampage. Television news crews and newspaper editors scurried to post pictures of one of the victims, 3-year-old Deonta Howard, who was shot in the face.

Just a short time later in a federal courtroom, a jury announced it had reached a verdict in an unrelated case. A proficient gun trafficker who routinely bought firearms in Indiana and resold them in Chicago was convicted of dealing firearms without a federal license, plus two counts each of illegally transporting firearms across state lines and interstate travel to sell guns without a license. Photos that prosecutors used in the case show defendant David Lewisbey, 23, of South Holland posing with rubber-banded stacks of $100 bills he earned for his cache. Those "selfies" came in handy at his trial.

All of Chicago has the same gun control laws, yet only parts of the city produce the majority of crime stats.

Why? Because that’s where most of the criminals are.

It’d be interesting to see a map of intelligence by census tracts for Chicago.

Not much IQ used by the presstitute who wrote the article.

The following may support my statement: “A proficient gun trafficker who routinely bought firearms in Indiana and resold them in Chicago was convicted of...”Proficient means skilled. Presstitute should have used “prolific” to emphasize the hugh and series number of evil guns.

Those guns went out and shot people. Frightening!

I’m surprised they didn’t call for more Midnight Basketball. Ah, but that would imply that the people doing the shooting would be to blame.

-—and don’t forget the “neighboring state” —supposed origin of all these illegal guns, which somehow manages to have a much lower crime rate than Chicago—

The danger in letting time pass without tougher gun laws involves the rest of us, too.

Apparently the writer is advocating more active public support for stricter gun laws. According to what I have recently read on several gun enthusiast websites, Chicago's current gun laws already make it practically impossible for the average law abiding Chicago resident to LEGALLY possess, buy, or otherwise have access to a handgun now. So what could be gained by the city adding even more restrictions on gun possession when it already has laws on the book that in affect outlaw guns altogether?

"I’m surprised they didn’t call for more Midnight Basketball."

Good idea. It's obvious that 10 pm bassetball is way too dangerous.

Note the ‘proficient gun trafficker’ David Lewisbey is one of 0bama’s people.

Just another type of community organizer.

At the least he once was gainfully employed. Yet another unemployed youth. His dream job killed by the overlords.

He must have bought some from licensed FFLs, which means he had to fill out a BATF 4473. Lying about being a Straw Purchaser is a $5,000 fine and five years in jail for each offense. How much did he get fined and how many years was he sentenced to? Hitting these guys with 20-30 year sentences and then trumpeting the penalty far and wide will do more to stifle these crimes than more "feel good" laws.
