Police said the shooting took place following an attempted robbery Tuesday afternoon on Norma Street, in the area of I-696 and Hoover Road.

The victim, a man in his 60s, and his brother sell gold and jewelry out of the home, according to police.

Warren Police Commissioner Jere Green said a prospective customer came knocking, but, once inside, pulled out a handgun.

A note taken into evidence by police at the scene reads: “Do not make a sound or I will shoot you. Want only the cash & jewelry and I’ll be gone! Give me the note back.”

Green said the victim did turn over some gold and some money, but the intruder demanded more.

And this is exactly why the crime rate in Michigan continues to fall even as we have fewer and fewer police.

That perp was either wearing a vest or the vic shot him with a 25. Couldn’t tell what gun he used in the story.

“He says, ‘Come upstairs … there’s more stuff under the bed.’ The homeowner goes under the bed, retrieves his handgun, turns around and fires three times at the bad guy, striking him twice in the chest and once under the arm,” said Green.

That’s when, said Green, the homeowner was severely pistol-whipped — but, amazingly, never shot by the intruder.

Struck him twice in the chest, and the perp still is able to pistol-whip the homeowner? I feel sorry for the homeowner - must have missed dead center. Thank goodness the idiot perp's weapon was non-functional.

Good point - didn’t think about a vest.

All I know is that if I’m going to have strangers coming into my house knowing that I have cash and valuables on hand, my gun won’t be under the bed.

Police said the suspect then ran out of the house to a waiting car. He was driven to St. John’s Macomb Hospital, where he is now in protective custody.

Apparently the ‘vic’ is in a heap of trouble since he didn’t return the ‘note’, had an unsecured gun under the bed, shot first and didn’t follow the instructions.
“Your Honor, my client is a hard working gunman, trying to raise money to finish his GED classes; he didn’t shoot his victims when he had a chance, they invited him into the house, there was NO warning ‘they’ had a gun.”

AND the ‘DOER’ is under ‘protective custody’? Are they afraid the victims will come and finish the job?

These reporters etc get better by the day and I guess the job of proof reader or Editor is a victim of economics?

I think so, if it ever existed. Nearly all these reports are from local sources, often television stations or radio stations.

I think many of the “transcripts” are simple machine translations of a broadcast.

Where you shoot them is more important than what you shoot them with.

A .25 is about the same power as a .22 out of short barrels.

I prefer a 9mm or a .38 (nothing against anything more powerful) because they can be relied on to break the major bones in the human body.

A .25 is much better than nothing, however. (I admit, I do not own a .25, and pistols of about the same size are now available in .32 and .380, both of which offer much better ballistics.

Good point - didn’t think about a vest.

That's where a .357 or .45 comes in handy - two shots to the chest will take the air out and likely knock them off their feet even if the vest isn't penetrated. When my alarm went off a few months ago (system error), I grabbed my .357 and crept out to see if anyone was there - the .380 stayed put... Bless my wife - she said she would now keep her piece in the bedroom at night because she felt useless while I went to check it out - I trust her with, and at, my back if the chips start flying.

Three lessons:

1) When selling gold, keep your gun on you, not upstairs under the bed.

2) Don’t sell gold out of your house.

3) Don’t sell gold, period. Why would anyone SELL gold when gold is going to be 10 gazillion dollars an ounce by next year? (It’s true. I read it on FreeRepublic several times a day).

These people need either 1) more range time, or 2) a more effective caliber.
