President Obama discussed his long-time political agenda during a memorial service Sunday among grieving family and friends of the victims of the horrific Washington Navy Yard mass killing last week.
David Jackson and Kelly Kennedy of USA Today reported breathlessly on the president's shameful comments. Obama said that the murder of twelve innocent people "echoes other recent tragedies" and went on to name other mass killings.
Although the president predictably harped on his gun control agenda, the memorial service should have been a tribute to the fallen. He declared, "Our words and our prayers are not enough ... We are going to have to change." The president did take some time during his eulogy to discuss the victims. His words were poignant and surely the families were grateful. Sadly, too little of his time was focused on the victims.

I absolutely agree with Obama. We law-abiding should be more obsessed with obtaining more guns and ammo, spending more time at the range, taking others to the range and teaching them firearms safety and marksmanship, and carrying concealed more often to the mall, school, work, and anywhere that is possible.
Time to stop this socialist crap now. We did it in Colorado and we can and will do it again.
Agreed! I’m pretty old to get started bearing arms, but I feel I must as an American citizen. My forefathers fought and died to give me this right, so I honor them by using it.
Let’s be completely honest here. Why do the gun grabbers really want to ban guns? Fear. I refuse to give up my rights simply to placate another citizen’s irrational fear of guns.
Let’s be even more honest. Why does the extreme left especially fear guns? Fear. Fear of armed opposition if they try to overthrow the US Constitution. The peace is maintained by the fact that we are all, both left and right, well armed. If we do lose this right, there is nothing at all standing in the way of evildoers.
He is right; give him credit for recognizing that this was no ordinary tragic mishap.
He does however take the wrong lesson from this event.
There are several important lessons to be learned here and centers on a minor detail and high jacks a memorial to innocent victims to beat the drum for his pet political plank. What an A-hole.
Hey Obama! This carnage was caused by a deeply mentally disturbed individual that had been crying out for help for years and was systematically ignored by the Veteran’s Administration and the police in several places he lived. But you focus on an inanimate object as the primary cause of the event.
He also received a security clearance to a secure government installation despite his several arrest for violent acts. Yet you focus on his choice of tools for his violence. If this man can get a security clearance why bother going to expense of performing a background check at all?
Far more carnage was caused perfectly sane individuals on September 11, 2001 when terrorist hi-jacked four Boeing 737’s. I ask should we out law the 737 or simply all aircraft in the name of public safety? Or should we outlaw all sharp objects on airplanes because box cutters were used to take over the planes?
(Oops; we already did. Sorry I forgot that over reaction and doing something totally inappropriate is the rule of thumb for politicians when government fails to respond to an obvious danger and a proper response would be politically incorrect.)
The Left’s obsession with guns is a diversion from the roots of gun violence. Most of those roots the left caused by thinking that government can do everything, like taking the place of the father in the home.
Another problem is the inadequate mental health system which refuses to institutionalize those in need of treatment for the safety of those around them and for their own good. You don’t let someone wander around hearing voices and expect them to be safe.
This sorry sack of buzzard puke never wastes an opportunity to politicize tragedy. Too bad one of the grieving family members didn’t call his sorry ass out and demand that he leave the ceremony.
