The Secret American Subculture Of Putin-Worshippers
National Journal ^ | September 23, 2013 | Mark Cogan

Two years ago, Gayne C. Young, a Texas-based writer and blogger for Outdoor Life, scored the interview of a lifetime. As a beat writer, Young had enjoyed the outdoor exploits of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has been documented shooting a gray whale with a crossbow, tranquilizing a tiger attacking a news crew, hunting shirtless, fishing shirtless, and riding horseback shirtless. On a personal level, Young liked the rugged brand of masculinity that seemed a throwback to Teddy Roosevelt. "Although you have Clinton shooting ducks, you never see it. Although Rick Perry says he enjoys hunting, you don't see it. They say they do, but they don't. Obama says he shoots skeet, but they only released one picture," Young says. "Here's a guy out there fishing, with no qualms. He's like, 'You don't like it? Tough.' Then he'd escalate and do more."

You think Putin gives a s$&t about American citizens?

You think Angela Merkel does? How about the president of Bulgaria? Why should they? You think Obama does?

I don’t worship Putin, I merely dislike him considerably less than I dislike President FUBO.

Exactly!

I would have thought that Putin’s slap at American exceptionalism (an article of faith here at FR) would have blown that admiration of Putin to smithereens.

It might have, if Putin had used the FR definition of American Exceptionalism.

Putin accepted the Leftist DemoRat, MSM, Hollywood entertainment industry definition of it to lecture about.

I doubt Putin is even aware of the FR definition.

Putin was addressing the "American Exceptionalism" that the MSM presented to him. Remember, the leftist DemoRat media controls the language and how it is used to present America to the world, except here at FR, and that same MSM uses language manipulation to demonize conservatives and all their American Exceptionalism principles.

I’m not a Putin lover, but there’s no doubt he is effective at promoting Russian interests.

Contrast that with President Zero.

So the libs have finally found a Russian dictator they don't like, eh? Ninety-six years too late.

What's with all these "palaeos" who think that American political correctness is somehow connected to "Israeli imperialism?" Are they really that crazy???

Putin is a leader, a man’s man, a strong character.

We have a wimpy, limp-wristed, homosexual liberal.

As Rush says: Conservatism is attractive, just use it and stop being wimpy.

It’s improper, downright rude, and incorrect to call such people “worshippers”. “Admirers” is far more accurate. But calling them admirers raises two honest questions:

1) What is it about Putin that they admire?, and

2) Why admire Putin, when there is a multitude of inferior American “leaders” they could admire?

To answer these questions, you need to first put yourself in Putin’s shoes: How would you lead Russia if you were Russia’s leader? Remember, Russians are *not* Americans, so do not do things “the American way”, nor do they share the same expectations of leaders, nor do they have the same goals as do Americans. Different history, different culture.

What you promise to the Russian people, and what you deliver of those promises has to resonate with Russians. It has to be what the Russian people want, not what you want.

Second, why imagine Putin as a good leader, unless you contrast him with America’s rather ineffectual, unpopular, and deficient recent leaders?

Let’s face facts: while W. Bush was fine and dandy with carrying out the War on Terror against a determined foreign enemy, he seemed incapable of *not* treating America and Americans like we were the enemy, too. This is America, land of peace, freedom and liberty. And that just made him cringe, because he saw terrorists everywhere. So he created an authoritarian state, because... (and that’s where the problem lies. It was an oppressive solution without a problem.)

Then, of course, there is that worthless worm, that inferior Earthling, called Obama. As Aesop might remark, we, the frog people, replaced King Stork with King Dork.

He is such an immensity of “suck” that Putin looks wonderful in comparison. Putin knows where he is, what he is doing, what Russia likes and doesn’t like. And most of all, he is a Russian *nationalist*.

And believe me, having a nationalist as your national leader is leaps and bounds better than having some mealy mouthed *internationalist*, who is more loyal to the United Nations than he is to the United States.

He wears it well, even if he is a Russian.

Maybe if the American people are smart, we can elect a POTUS more like him than the previous two disasters.

Putin has gotten some conservative kudos for recent comments about the importance of Christianity to Western Civilization and for his resistance to the gay agenda. But, apart from that, I think most conservatives realize that Putin is in some ways a thug and not someone we would really want running this country.

As for conservatives "worshipping" Putin, worship of political figures is much more a liberal trait. Every presidential election cycle, the MSM anoint the Democratic candidate as the smartest man in the world, and his wife as the smartest and most beautiful woman in the world. Meanwhile, on FR, virtually every Republican president or presidential candidate or politician seems to have as many critics as fans.

I have yet to see a conservative wearing a Putin t-shirt, but all my life I've seen libs touting people like Castro, Chairman Mao, Che, Hugo Chavez, Ho Chi Minh, Lenin, Marx, and other leftist rogues.

Putin isn’t waging war on Christians, heterosexuals, and working class/small business owners like the anti Constitution globalists of both parties.
