Excellent. And it sounds as if the Vatican under Pope Francis’s direction didn’t give the Archbishop of Melbourne any more excuses to delay and delay and delay while “investigating” the matter.
It’s not as if the grounds for excommunication aren’t perfectly clear from this ex-priest is saying, even now. He clearly has no intention of apologizing or repenting.

“Mr Reynolds said that his being excommunicated would not make a different to his ministry.”
In the Middle Ages, formal acts of public excommunication were sometimes accompanied by a ceremony wherein a bell was tolled (as for the dead), the Book of the Gospels was closed, and a candle snuffed out hence the idiom “to condemn with bell, book, and candle.”

I've long advocated the restoration of the full "Bell, Book and Candle" treatment.

excommunication does sound like they mean business, but defrocked might sound kinda sexy to gay priests

Have followed the latest kerfluffle, but my instinct is that this Pope is going to confound a lot of people a lot of the time. The “liberal / conservative” pigeon holes may not work with this one.

Excellent for the Church to begin re-drawing the lines and enforcing its rules. IMHO they were losing their way in this evil world by not taking a stand against defiant membership. Congratulations.

I’ve seen folks argue in favor of letting Priests get married, or at least get ‘em some.
It occurs to me that there is a whole army of Nuns just sitting around doing nothing...

Maybe Pelosi, Biden, etc. will notice?Melbourne Archbishop Denis Hart, who made headlines in May after appearing at a Victorian parliamentary inquiry into a child sex abuse case of another priest, apparently was not the one who requested the order, "but someone else unknown has gone over his head and contacted the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith," Mr Reynolds said.
We shall see. Hopefully they'll go over the heads of the bishops here as well. Wuerl, for one...
