Davy Crockett, a man who lost an election and then told his ex-constituents to go to hell, makes an appearance in a Senate primary.
Joe Carr, from the inbox:
Yesterday, Ted Cruz completed 21 hours on the Senate floor fighting for the American people against Obamacare, standing on principle. Tennesseans from one end of the state to the other rallied around Sen. Ted Cruzs speech. Sen. Lamar Alexander was nowhere to be found during Sen. Cruzs speech, but appeared during session to give an insulting analogy about at least one famous Tennessean.
Sen. Alexander spoke on the Senate floor saying, Former Congressman Davy Crockett said I think I will go to the Alamo some people said Davy if you go to the Alamo youll get killed, he went to the Alamo he did get killed. Alexander continued by saying, Sam Houston took a different tact, he withdrew to San Jacinto. He was heavily criticized by some people at that time for withdrawing. We celebrate Texas Independence Day on March 2, 1836 because Sam Houston won the war. The moral of the story is that sometimes in a long battle patience is a valuable tactic and thats why Im in Sam Houstons Camp on this one. Im not in the shut-down-the government camp.
Not only did Sen. Alexander fail to emulate the views of his constituents in Tennessee who overwhelmingly support Sen. Ted Cruz and his efforts to defund Obamacare, he stood on the Senate floor and criticized Tennesseans who stand on principle including one of the most famous Davy Crockett. I am in the fight for Tennesseans Camp. says Rep. Joe Carr.
Without Davy Crockett staying and fighting at the Alamo and heroically sacrificing his life for the principles Tennesseans believe in, Texas Independence Day would never have been possible. It was the bravery of Davy Crockett and thirty-one Tennesseans at the Alamo who gave their lives that allowed the time necessary for Sam Houston to recruit the men necessary to beat Santa Anna and the Mexican army. It is worth noting that the battle cry for the remainder of the war was Remember the Alamo! I dont believe their sacrifice was in vain and I am sure General Sam Houston would agree, says Rep. Joe Carr.
Davy Crockett understood the importance of the Declaration of in Independence, which says
we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our Sacred Honor. Generations of Tennesseans have honorably given their lives in service of our country. From the Alamo to those men and women serving in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, their memory should be honored, not be used as political theatre for self-enrichment of a career politician who doesnt believe in self-sacrifice, says Rep. Joe Carr
If Lamar were to run and win another term in the Senate, he’d be 80 when that term ends. Enough.
Tell Lamar to take another trip to Australia like he did in the mid-80s when he was actually needed by the GOP after his run as TN governor and was asked to run for the Senate.
Really stupid to insult a Texan and reference the Alamo. Even dumber when you are the Senator from Tennessee and bad mouth Davy Crockett the same sentence.
As a kid, I had a coonskin cap...( today, that’s be racist)
Fess Parker had some awesome roles for Disney back then: Davy Crockett, and the dad in “ole Yeller.” However, my favorite movie of his..which you can never see anywheres..lawd knows why, is “The Great Locomotive Chase.”
Sam Houston did retreat to San Jacinto, deeper into friendly territory. Alexander has metaphorically switched sides and is drinking a margarita in Mexico City.
You’re first
LOL
Famous Crockett speech
don-o, please add me to your ping list and thanks for the job you are doing on chronicling this campaign.
I can’t wait to see Joe Carr sworn in and Alexander moving out of his Senate office.
You’re on. I hope he’s a hoss we can ride to victory. Levin right now is calling out both of the Tennessee rinos.
I heard there may be a "Tea Party Primary" this time to avoid that against Lamar! Anyone know about that?
There is a process underway. I will know more after Saturday.
Add me too.
Is it the TN GOP who ultimately picks our candidates? Wamp would have been 10,000 times better than Haslam but the RINO won the primary somehow. Also, we need to make sure we defeat Lamar (and later Bob) without ending up with a Mourdock or Akin.
Davey Crockett was a great American hero and arguably a very early Tea Partier. We need many more like him in congress - men who serve honorably, vote with their convictions (even against great opposition), and then return to private life.
done
thank you....
Lamar! may be old enough to have known Dvey Crockett, but he sure is no Davy Crockett.
I had the pleasure of meeting Joe the other night when he was in Lynchburg to speak and to answer questions. I was impressed. He's straight-forward and is up on the issues, and stands on the right side of the issues. He's got my vote.
Odd that Lamar! brought up Crockett and the Alamo. Joe talked a bit about them the other night and I got the feeling he's done the same at other events. Makes me think Lamar! has sent some of his people to scope out the competition. LOL! Word is that he's worried and that's a good thing.
